Hello

In recent years; the explosion of domestic T20 leagues like the IPL, BBL, PSL, and The Hundred has reshaped the landscape of international cricket. While these leagues have undoubtedly brought financial security to players and attracted new audiences to the sport; they also raise concerns about the future of Test cricket. With players prioritizing franchise cricket over national duty due to lucrative contracts, is Test cricket at risk of being sidelined? Many cricketers have either retired early from the longest format or selectively skipped Test tours to focus on T20 leagues, leading to a decline in the depth of red-ball specialists.

Another issue is the scheduling conflict between international series & T20 tournaments. Boards like the BCCI and ECB ensure that their top players remain available for leagues, sometimes even at the expense of crucial bilateral series. This raises questions about whether cricketing boards should enforce stricter central contracts to keep Test cricket relevant. Some former cricketers have suggested introducing a minimum Test match quota for players participating in T20 leagues to maintain a balance, but enforcing such regulations seems complicated. Would financial incentives for Test matches be a viable solution, or is the decline of traditional formats inevitable?:asleep: Checked https://www.planetcricket.org/forums/forums/cricket-discussion.28-AWS guide related to this and found it quite informative.

As passionate fans, what do you think should be done to ensure Test cricket survives in the modern era dominated by T20? Should ICC step in with reforms to make Test cricket more appealing to younger players, such as revamping the World Test Championship format or introducing day-night Tests more frequently? Share your thoughts and potential solutions on how to maintain the prestige and excitement of the purest form of the game!

Thank you !!
