India's emphatic win over Pakistan in a match whose fate was decided on the penultimate ball during the ongoing Asia Cup in Dambulla on Saturday, just showed that the men in blue were better prepared to handle the pressure which accompanies any cricket match between the two arch rivals, former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram said.

Akram said that the way India chased down the competitive total of 267 runs put up by Pakistan shows that Team India is miles ahead of Pakistan.

He said that though the green shirts batted well to put up a challenging total, Dhoni's men outclassed Afridi's young brigade in every field during the match.

Despite getting a perfect platform from the openers Salman Butt and Imran Farhat , who shared a 71-run partnership between them, the middle order failed to capitalise.

Akram, one of Pakistan's most successful captains, showered praise on Indian opener Gautam Gambhir for proving his mettle at the top on a pitch which was difficult to bat on, especially under lights.

"I think Gambhir played a superb 83-run knock on a difficult pitch. Then Dhoni came in at No 4, leading from the front. I like Dhoni as a captain. He played an important innings of 56 alongside Gambhir," The Daily Times quoted Akram, as saying.

He also praised Harbhajan Singh for taking India home and showing no signs of nerves whatsoever while facing Shoaib Akhtar .

"The off-spinner was not overawed by the situation and had no respect for Shoaib Akhtar when he hit the pacer for a six. He has time and again performed well under pressure," Akram said.

"In a nutshell, all this showed that the Indian team is miles ahead of Pakistan," he added.

Akram also raised questions over the Pakistan team management's decision to not play off spinner Saeed Ajmal in the opener against hosts Sri Lanka .

This thread is 3 weeks late. :facepalm

But it is there :p

3 weeks late or no late :p

Is it me or is that first sentence oxymoronic? How can a win be emphatic if it's decided off the second last ball?

India is better test side but cannot say about ODI and definitely no no in T20.

Nah Sid, India is easily a better Test and ODI side, Pakistan can only "perform" in Twenty20.

M Aamer should have taken Indian citizenship

Loosing two ODIs to Zims. :yes

Full strength Indian side is better but even if 2-3 members go missing its at same level.

India is surely far better in batting and fielding but no no in bowling. This is a truth no need to have a separate discussion on it.If you will talk only about India Pakistan contest then in every match both teams are 50 50, you can't predict. but on whole basis(I mean playing with other teams) India is better.

I have been hearing this for ages. May be it was true some years ago but not now. They are not real fast bowlers but they are good enough to take 20 wickets on flat sub-continental wickets and win you test matches. ;)

:yes:yes Agree to you!!

Stop it that Indians do not have good bowlers!!

It was bowlers like Zaheer and Ishant who did the trick for India against the So called Mighty Aussie's in a time when we were low and out from tests back in 2008.

Zaheer still is the best for India and Praveen and Nehra doing their bit in ODI's.

With the injury scare for Indians in the coming test series, Umesh Jadev and Unadkat will be a great test of challenge!!

Well Ishant starts at 40 ability points, goes to 80 and has slipped back to 40.

Aamer starts at 40 goes to 80 and is now at 85.

That is the difference in two sides as far as fast bowling goes, its no contest. Pakistan wins easily in bowling. Indian bowlers just fade away after initial promise.

India are definitely better in tests and ODI's. Pakistan are far better than us in T20 (they beat Australia twice in recent games and that too in a place like England). Though India's bowling is not threatening, its highly manageable in ODI's and above average in test cricket. Our bowling is made to look bad because of T20 cricket. We need to find bowlers who can bowl skillfully in T20's. T20's are what spoiled Ishant, Sreesanth and the likes.

I completely agree there to you Sai!!
