Well its about another 6-7 months away why not we start to decide as to who should be in the Rest team.

Exactly. I'd let the ashes decide the capabilities of some of the English players who have been super-hyped but played only against mediocre opposition.

there is no way i would include akhtar. he cant be bothered to get up for his country plus he isnt THAT great a bowler. im not sure which winning performances in aussie land your talking about because pakistan didnt get close to winning a test match in australia in a long time. not since hobart in 2000 or whichever year that was.

i would probably go for Ntini ahead of the other quicks.

another change i would make is lara for laxman. surely lara has to be in there somewhere

Akhtar won Pakistan the ODI series in Australia just a few years back.Also he did well in Australia but it was just that he didnt get support in Tests.




Lara no matter how a gr8 a batsman he is has never helped WI beat Aussies in Australia which Laxman has done.
So maybe the McGrayh effect on Lara and that all Laxman would be a better choice and cant have Lara in the 14 cos you cant just have him in the 14 and not in the 11 .

Lara in both Tests and ODIs for sure.

Vettori in the Test team to add tail strength.

Flintoff as lone all rounder, even if it means no Kallis in the team (Depends on Ashes outcome and Flintoff's form in Ashes).

Jayasurya and Sehwag opening the innings in ODI's. Jayasurya and Sehwag can bowl too!

Jayasuriya has dropped out of form. Lara any day. Laxman is too uneven a quantity. We thought he performs everytime against Australia but the recent tour he was far from brilliant. Everyone was shoddy, and Laxman did have one good innings to his credit (in Mumbai) but that apart he did not really show the same skill against the Aussies. As for Vettori, why would you take him if there are so many quality spinners in the world? Perhaps just because of Kiwi representation. I think apart from that the spinner's quota is filled by Muralitharan, Kumble and Harbhajan. Perhaps Bhajji could be replaced by Vettori, but the former has a test hat-trick against the Aussies to name.

Harbhajan performed wonderfully well against Aus (but in india though). still you have to consider that. Kumble's exploits in 2004 are well known and murail had a decent tour of aus. once. When you three outstanding spinners, it would be hard to fit in vettori. Fleming can represent new zealand and he can be the captain in the tests.

Laxman would always be a tough option to drop but i'm sure Lara will easily get into the team.

Yes, at the moment Fleming seems like the ideal captain. The choices would be:

1. Rahul Dravid (not Ganguly )
2. Michael Vaughan (may make it to bench)
3. Brian Lara
4. Marvan Atapattu (doubt he'll get in)
5. Graeme Smith (may make it to bench)
6. Stephen Fleming (may make it to bench)
7. Inzamam-ul-Haq

I'm guessing if they can fit some of the other captains into the team, Smith or Fleming may take captaincy. Probably not Smith because of the defensive mindset of the South African team. Else, I see Rahul Dravid as the main candidate for captaincy.

Man is this guy out of this mind when he says Kaneria and Afridi.

Also Inzamam is a good choice no doubt but not a probable one .
