Tests have been played at Eden Park since 1929-30 and the ground hosted New Zealand's first Test victory, against West Indies in 1955-56. But it is also the scene of a dark day in New Zealand Test cricket history when, on 28 March 1955, the hosts collapsed to their lowest Test score - 26 all out - against England. The pavilion is steeped in tradition, contrasting with two massive modern grandstands which push the capacity over 40,000. All stands have covered and uncovered seating. The humid and sub-tropical conditions combine to produce wickets that assist slow and spin bowlers. The ground resembles a baseball diamond, which can flummox visiting captains in their field placement.

The University Oval ground is located in Logan Park, which itself was built between 1913 and 1920 on the silted-up inlet of Otago Harbour. The Park contains many sports pitches, and as well as the cricket venue. A beautiful tree-lined ground with a main pavilion and a grandstand at one end, and plenty of flat grassy banks for spectators, the playing area was expanded and the pitch rotated ahead of Otago switching there in 2004. It had been used occasionally for major cricket since 1978-79. In 2007-08 it hosted its first Test, becoming New Zealand's seventh Test venue, but its second, in December 2008 against West Indies, was controversial because considerable time was lost to rain and the facilities and groundstaff came in for much criticism.

Formerly known as Seddon Park, having been named for former New Zealand Prime Minister Richard John (King Dick) Seddon, the oval was renamed Trustbank Park following a major renovation and construction of the present pavilion, sponsored by Trustbank Waikato, in 1990. In 1997 a merger between Westpac and Trust Bank meant the renaming of the ground to WestpacTrust Park in line with the new bank's name. The ground is located close to the centre of Hamilton, New Zealand's fifth largest city 150 kilometres south of Auckland, and is renowned for it's village green-style setting, affording a picnic atmosphere for spectators.WestpacTrust Park has been the Northern Districts' Cricket Association's main home venue since the Association was formed for the 1956/57 season. It became New Zealand's newest test venue in the 1990/91 season when New Zealand and Sri Lanka played out a drawn match.

estled beneath Mount Victoria and Mount Cook, the Basin Reserve is an island of cricket in inner city Wellington. Spectators are accommodated on a grass bank on the eastern side of the ground, a natural sun trap which also provides shelter from the notorious southerly winds. The ground is protected by Act of Parliament and is New Zealand's only sport ground on the National Heritage list.Cricket in Wellington received a surprise boost in 1855, courtesy of an unexpected earthquake which flattened out enough ground to create the Basin Reserve. The ground, however, was swampy and it was another 13 years until the ground was completed and the first match was played between Wellington Volunteers and representatives of HMS Falcon in 1868.Local enthusiasts had to wait until 1968-69 for New Zealand's first Test victory on the ground, against West Indies. It was also the scene of a then-world record for all Test wickets when, in 1990-91, Martin Crowe (299) and Andrew Jones (186) posted 467 runs in their third-wicket stand against Sri Lanka.Sir Richard Hadlee took his 300th Test wicket here, when he removed the Australian captain Allan Border.
