Left 4 Dead 2: Banned in Australia by Australian Classification Board

Hopefully they'll do so as with what Bethesda done with Fallout 3 when it was refused a rating.

I read some article about how it's been reported that Lombardi (Valve Official) hadn't made any further announcements about tweaking the game, but considering Australia to be a wide gaming market, you'd think that Valve would make a few changes.

Valve appealed the decision of the OFLC about a week after notification of the ruling, comparing the sequel to its predecessor, which had been classified as MA15+, and the mature ratings the sequel had received from similar rating organizations across the world. However, as the appeal process, expected to end on October 22, was close to the planned release date, Valve had also submitted a modified version of the game for classification addressing the concerns the Office has stated. This version, which no longer contained images of "decapitation, dismemberment, wound detail or piles of dead bodies", has been classified as MA15+ by the Office, thus allowing for the game's release in Australia, though Valve and Electronic Arts still hope to have their preferred, unmodified version classified by the Office for release. Left 4 Dead 2's classification refusal has reignited debate over the OFLC's current lack of a video game classification for adult material, as similar classifications exist for films and other media.

I guess the watered down version is better than nothing. But still it does raise a few questions to the Australian classification board. Along with this, I was on the AU Gamespot website and found this article to be quite a good read.

thats a whimpy move to be honest

it comes like in a month.

So i decided to avoid modern warfare 2 for the pc, and get left 4 dead 2 instead. Arrived this morning, anyone else got it?

No - what's it like? Enough of a departure from the previous game? Not interested if it's same old, same old.

Well its similar to the first game, which i also think is amazing. But i've only just started playing them. The main thing i have noticed is slightly better graphics, levels, and lots of new weapons including melee weapons. Chainsaws, , guitars, frying pans, baseball bats, cricket bats, samurai swords, machete's and many more i forget. There are also petrol cans, butane gas bottles, plus more you can pick up carry and place before the horde arrives then run back and shoot it.

The online play is the best part though, so many game modes. Probably best you read a gamespot review or something though, as im not sure what half of them are, or do.

I have tried the demo. I love the melee weapons (the frying pan is hilarious) and there seems to be more variety in the zombies this time round. I hope not all levels are set during the day though, some night time levels would be good as well.

Plenty of variety dude. I won't spoil it, but the weather/night effects on the last level are astonishing. Its just like being in the worst storm ever. I just hope your cpu/graphics card is up to it.

Well, the demo ran faultlessly, even when the horde were around, so hopefully the full game will be just as good. The good thing about the day time levels is they remind me of being in '28 Days Later'. I just wish they didn't set it in the US again. Maybe somewhere down the line, map makers will make some UK maps. Imagine battling Zombies around Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament....

Well I am downloading the demo mainly because I have nothing to do this week and so might as well look at something new as I have absolutely no games worth playing.

Australia takes the videogame business too seriously :P Isn't the first time they've banned mainstream videogames...isn't the last. Good thing for PS3 owners there is they can easily import :P

Sadly I don't think it's coming out on PS3, so that would be a waste of time.
