Melbourne Bitters 06/07 Team Thread

sweet, let us know the result of each of them, also any chronic performances, eg. Player 3 gets 4 100's, so we know to put me there :)

Try and aim to get a squad like this next season...

Batsman
Wicketkeeper
Batsman
Batsman
Batsman
Batsman
Batsman
Batting Allrounder
Allrounder
Bowler - Fast Medium
Bowler - Fast Medium
Bowler - Spin
Bowler - Fast
Bowler - Fast

I think we could make a good OD next year with a few changes of specialities. I think Embi wants to turn into a Pure Batsman which is fine but we can still use him usefully for the rest of this season by batting down the order as I think Batting Allrounders bat quick in the final overs. I think we need a batting allrounder who bowls simple medium-pace for variety but Embi's a fast bowler, so that's alright I guess.

I think we have to many spin bowlers. If Skateboarder were to change into a Fast-Medium bowler it could add some variety as well (As I think all of the pace bowlers a straight-out fast bowlers anyway) and try and recruit another Fast Medium bowler as that's probably what someone like McGrath is. A fast bowler is someone like Lee or Bond who'll take atleast a wicket or two a game and get the odd 5 or 6 for but will go at about 5 an over or possibly 6. You have Aus5892 & Rickyp as you're two strike-rate bowlers, you need 2 Fast Meds to try and keep the econ down in a OD'er. You'd also expect Spin to pick up a few aswell.

I don't think the OD game treats Pure Allrounders quite nicely as their strike-rate is lower which is a problem as if he bats lower down the order which his been doing, his strike-rate isn't that high and we probably won't get as big a total as we could've gotten as with a two batting allrounders they can score quicker & quickly get through a few overs to fill the required 5th bowlers maximum and use them as part-timers... they might even get the odd wicket or two. But if Duff bats up the order then he could slow the batting and potentially cause a collaspe or a total which isn't up the standard of the pitch.

As far as his bowling goes his econ. rate is the best out of the team but he averages just under 60 with the ball so it's you're choice but incase you want to replace him with one of the pure bowlers or not go with the 2 batting allrounders then I'd suggest you drop good old Duff. We should be relying on our 4 pure bowlers to take the 10 wickets. Particulary, I'd play with 5 bowlers but we don't have 5 bowlers. So I think the next best option is to play with 2 batting allrounders.

From what I have to work with this is potentially the best Melbourne Bitters 1st OD XI you can assembled. You just need another pure bowler and there is just to many spinning options. You need more variation to succeed in OD where it's different in FC when you're main strike bowlers (eg: Rickyp and Aus5892) can bowl unlimitaly and take the majority of the wickets instead of just being able to bowl 10 or so and just pick up 3 or 4 put together.

Brad352 (Batsman)
Squiz (Wicketkeeper)
Left Hander (Batsman)
Wfdu_ben91 (Batsman)
Cric_craze (Batsman)
Simbazz (Batting Allrounder)
Embi (Batting Allrounder)
Skateboarder (Bowler)
The Spin (Bowler)
Aus5892 (Bowler)
Rickyp (Bowler)

Glad to see I am in Ben's prefferd XI ;). Hopefully I can stay a Bitter next year :)

the duff has biten the dust from the test odi team.... uh oh!

He's getting on a bit now, and the likes of the soakers have found him out in the shorter version of the game :p

He comes along with a handy run or two, but he's proper cricket material, i dont think he'd handle 2 matches in a week :p All them McDonalds are creeping up on the guy :)

Have you seen what they cook there fries in Simon? :p

Okay enough paying out on McDonalds from me.

Well in my opinion its fat fried in fat. I even thing the burger buns are fried in fat beforehand :p

Duff will make the Mcdonalds Greatest burger flipping team though :p i think thats a OD event :p

Might also be a good idea next season to get one of you're friends to registor under the name "Don Bradman" and then we can recruit em and see how they go. :p

Yeah, I'd like to become a pure batsman next season, for the sake of getting decent runs, its not an ideal life being an allrounder :(

I agree, personally I'd just rather a set a team of pure batsman & bowlers and perhaps add an extra bowler seeing as the wicketkeepers get the same set batting average as the pure batsman do.

If anything, you'd want a batting allrounder or two in you're OD team. There more so part-timers but I just found out that playing with 5 bowlers that it puts pressure on the batsman, especially if one of the openers goes out early on.

For example, I played the Supersoakers with 5 bowlers. Restricted them to just 230 in their 50 overs and then 1st ball of our innings Brad gets comprehensively cleaned bowled (lol) so his out for a golden duck. Squiz then started batting slowly and ended up going out for a single figure score. I went out for 10 & Cric_Craze made a single figure score and we're about 4 down for 60 odd. The last 2 noted batsman (Lefty & Embi) had a hundred run partnership before Embi fell 8 short of his half-century.

Though, I had Simbazz as a pure bowler (testing the 6 batsman, 5 bowlers team) and he smashed a quickfire 21. It could've been allot worse and we ended up getting bundled out for 190 after Lefty knicked one on 82.

I also think that left handed bowlers add allot of variety. I had Skateboarder as a left handed fast bowler and he finished with an econ rate of just under 4! Simbazz was tested as a left handed fast-med and opened the bowling and picked up a few early ones aswell.

What about when it says: "Forget get Bradman when we have got Don Bradman" :D. Now that would be funny.

82 not bad. I think that is the second time I have gotten out on 82.

@Mark: Do we have anymore Interforum matches left?

I don't do practice matches, we've been through this- no doubt I was off to the golf course or the pub very soon after returning to the pavilion

Yes we won our pool so we're in the semis now, not sure when they are though.
