Hello Guys,

I never Knew of MS Works untill my computing teacher told me today  , I always used Microsoft Office, do any of us have MS Works, and can anyone tell me what is better MS Works or MS office.

Works isnt better than office, Its a cut down package with less features. I suppose some might find it easier to use.

Microsoft works comes with Windows XP Home, Office with XP Pro I think. MS Works is a crap version of it.

Works is better now that it actually includes Microsoft Word as the word package though.

No you have to buy Office, it isnt include with XP pro

oh. But with XP Pro you get Microsoft word and Excel and stuff don't ya?
No, the main difference between pro and home is networking, XP home isnt even fully TCP/IP compliant.

I have both Microsoft Office and Microsoft Works on my laptop. Office is better but Works has the Task Launcher, which is a nice little program.

Works comes with a lot of computers becuase it is cheaper than the full Office, it has the full blown Word, and then another program with some other cut down versions of office programs.
A lot of laptops would come with the Student and Teacher edition of office, which is Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Basically, you don't find many PCs without an Office app of some sort, really cheap ones would have OpenOffice(or nothing), most mid range ones would have Works or Office Basic/Student and Teacher, and higher end ones or business ones would have the full Office suite.
It's also cheaper to buy office and works with your PC, works is about AU$80 with a new PC.

Oh right, my sister has pro and Word and Excel, I didn't think it was office.
There are stand-alone versions of word and excel available, thats what your sister have.

Can't be right. Where did you get that from? Home is TCP/IP compliant, it just doesnt have some of the networking features in Pro, like Remote Desktop or integration into Windows Server networks.

On topic:
Microsoft Works came with our computer and we hated it. Office is just so much better so we bought it.

Ms Works was out 10 years ago. I use to use it back in 95, back then it was one of the top Word Processors. Then Word starting getting bigger in 97 and it hasn't looked back since.

I have Works Suite 2003 installed (came with the computer), which is useful, because it comes with Encarta and a card making program.

I use Office 2003 Student & Teacher Edition, for actual office stuff...
