Misbah Replaces Afridi as Pakistans ODI Captain

Imran Khan was unique. I wouldnt want anyone to usually be getting that sort of captaincy, but I think since the captain is responsible for the XI that goes out to play, all the on field decisions etc, then it should be his final say. This aint football where the managers call is more important.

As usual a poor decsion by PCB. Ijaz Butt always seems to change the captain by creating some sort of drama when ever Pakistan team look to settle. First it was Younis and now Afridi.
I can see now Pakistan cricket into another era of trumoil.

Misbah's sluggishness is an epidemic that has got into the whole team. Pakistan have never batted slower than this before. Their run rate through this test series is despicable and is a mere reflection of mentality of the captain. Shame on you Ijaz Butthole.

Taufeeq Umar's strike rate has improved, but he remains a bad batsman. That's the underlying problem here. Too many batsmen are irreplaceable, to the extent that they'd probably miss Abdur Rehman's batting when he gets dropped.

I think he deserves a place in the TESTs atleast. Theres way too much instability there, I would push Azhar Ali to open. Umar isnt a good opener in my books.

Seems like the majority of you PAK fans dont think that highly of Misbah as skipper, which as a outsider seems a bit surprising to be fair. I always got the impression that he is a bit of a late bloomer & could very well & play until he is age 40 very well.

Also how come young A Shezad has been axed?. Thought he has looked good in recent months..

Ye it will interesting to see how MoYo continues to perform in England this summer. A solid season for Lancashire & recall for the test set-up for him is real option.

So disappointing again that Aamir & Asif are banned. Since add them as 2 off your 4 bowlers along with 2 of (Gul, Riaz, Ajmal) & thats a bloody strong team.

Maybe even Haider over Salman as well.

Shehzad was never really in the frame for the TEST team and at the moment he doesnt deserve to be near it anyways. Hes weird in a way that he gets hundreds and low scores, so its a problematic question on whether to include him or not.

Misbah as a TEST captain is fair enough, but I just see Afridi as a way better captain. Hes more aggressive and going to Misbah now, even if hes the right candidate is just poor decision. Under Afridi Pakistans success includes wins abroad in Windies and NZ but the highlight is the fight they have given England and South Africa and the run-up to WC Semifinals with THIS team. The bigger reason though is we finally established some stability with the leadership and it makes no sense to mess with it, and selection issues will generally always happen between coach and captain but the viable solution is not to sack one of them.

What I don't understand is why would you replace Afridi with Misbah? It's a tour against Ireland, not SA. Ths could have been a fantastic opportunity to build for the future and give someone younger the captaincy. Hafeez seemed like a good candidate.

Absolutely Misbah is a late bloomer. He had to be in team at the time of Inzamam-ul-Haq and Muhammad Yousuf Peak. But Younas Khan had some special outside influence I guess. Plus the strange nature of Inzamam-ul-Haq at the time of his captaincy enforced many class talent to be outside from the team. Another example was the exclusion of Asim Kamal, I don't know whether you have seen him bat or not but believe me, He was a very very good batsman.

Making Misbah the ODI captain is a strategically wrong decision as well, since we need to have a captain who can still play for two to three years for Pakistan. Misbah is unlikely to play that role. Plus, Trust me, Misbah doesn't have the guts to perform in bowling friendly pitches. He is not that kind of a technical batsman who can perform in pitches which support bowlers.

kinda agree with the change but may be should have chosen a different captain instead of misbah. afridi as captain actually often had defensive field settings tbh and his batting was shameful. u cant have ur leader get out 2nd ball every game. the problem is now that afridi will try and undermine misbah....the cycle begins again

Misbah can at best play for another year. Age has caught up with him already as was evident with awful slip catching. Its not long before his batting also starts suffering. Pakistan are in need of building for the future. Afridi was doing alright as an ODI captain. His batting has always been crap but his bowling ensure he has a legitimate place in the side. Younis Khan should also have not been called up for ODIS any more. We definitely do not need Moyo if we are looking to build for the future. Azhar Ali, Asad Shafique and Umar Akmal are all potentially good batsman. None of them is of Yousaf's caliber but this is the best we have got atm and we have to learn to live with it.

Too defensive mind set. Afridi was always attacking and got wickets. MIsbah is useless player in my opinion. Need to bring back Mhd. YOUSUF . Just made 2 centuries in domestic level in English at around 80 strike rate. Bunch of talent and make the middle order more stabile.
