Is this (the yellow shaded radar area) something you select with the right stick before playing a shot or is it simply representing what you're doing with the left stick once you play a shot?

Are you getting this confused with the EA Century Stick?

As the bowler runs in, holding the LEFT analogue stick in a direction produces the yellow arc. Then you press the bottom face button (X on PS2, don't know about XBox) to hit the shot in that direction.

The right analogue stick never comes into it as far as I'm aware. As Burma's Finest is the only one of us to have played the game, he would be able to confirm this.
