Player Interview: Its good to have contributed with the ball & help the team win some matches _Bigby Wolf

Mohammed-Shamir.jpeg

TPCL Staff.

18:26 IST

Interviewer: So we have got the leading wicket taker of Royal Mavericks in the Bradman Shield competition Bigby Wolf alongside us
My first question to you Bigby is.... How do you feel about your consistent performances throughout the tournament?
Bigby Wolf: Ecstatic. Its good to have contributed with the ball & help the team win some matches.

Interviewer: How much important was it for your team for you to perform with this consistency?
Bigby Wolf: Very Important. As Fast Bowling is all about Rythym so once you are in that zone you need to make the most of it and keep knocking the batters over.

Interviewer: You played for the Rebelz last season and you as a side had lost to Royal Mavericks in the Finals at Motera, now you are here with Mavericks in the Finals so how is the feeling?
Bigby Wolf: The Feeling is great to be in the Finals as it presents an opportunity to get over the last season's mistakes.

Interviewer: After losing to The Avengers at Dharamsala how much did it affect you as a side?
Bigby Wolf: The morale was obviously down but you gotta pick as a side because there is a lot to play after and you gotta always look at the brighter & positive side of things.

Interviewer: Did you expect yourself to beat the Bad Boys at Lord's and get a place in the Finals?
Bigby Wolf: Yes. Absolutely the belief & the will to win is always there.

Interviewer: How important are the runs that Dikshansh and Kamaraj scored for your side for you as a bowler to put pressure on the opposition?
Bigby Wolf: Those runs were like gold for us.

Interviewer: Do you think you can go past Naman A7 and claim most wickets for the Bradman Shield?
Bigby Wolf: 6 wickets is what I need in two innings to get past Naman, would be great if I get past him but more importantly want to contribute in winning the team title - primary goal the wickets column will eventually fill up.

Interviewer: What challenges does the Avengers bring to you as a side?
Bigby Wolf: The Avengers are great side with some fantastic talents with both bat & the ball having them in the final would be real challenge & as a Individual looking forward to it.

Interviewer: Do you feel you can defend your title?
Bigby Wolf: Yes we will defend our title.

Interviewer: Thanks for your time Bigby Wolf.
Bigby Wolf: Cheers Mate. Appreciated.

Avengers achieve a special feat in the 2nd Final of the Kumar Vishal Trophy

qPxIB2i.png

TPCL Staff.
17:49 IST

The Avengers were supposed to play their 20th One-Day match which also happened to be the 2nd Final of the Kumar Vishal Trophy. They were the only team to play 20 One-Day matches in TPCL One-Day history. The Avengers had lost the 1st Final of Kumar Vishal Trophy by 130 runs playing against the Bad Boys. This actually worked as a wake-up call for the Avengers and they came up with some changes in the playing XI. After winning the toss The Avengers elected to bat first. Unlike the previous match, Sod Anderson and Ahmed Leo were slightly conservative at the start of their innings. Jacob got out Leo in the 4th over of the innings. At 18/1, Asad Raza joined Anderson at the crease. After seeing off few overs, they attacked the Bad Boys bowling putting the pressure back on them. Ohm Fischer throw brought some relief to the Bad Boys camp as they got the dangerous Sod Anderson run-out on 52 followed by the priced scalp of Talha Hayat who got out to Jacob for just 1!! Raza looked good for his century but was dismissed by Struwig's medium pace as he scored 80. From 173/3, The Avengers were reduced to 203/6. However, Stock and Mohsin attacked the Bad Boys bowlers and took The Avengers past 50. Mohsin scored 16 in just 8 balls. The Avengers scored 259/9 in their 50 overs as they believed in their bowling to win them the 2nd Final.

The hopes soon looked to be shattering as the Bad Boys put 142 for the 1st wicket inside 20 overs. Nilay Shah who came for his 2nd spell dismissed both opener Lalit Modi for 72 and Parth K for 64 in the span of just 3 deliveries. Appu Kiran who was bowling only for the 2nd time in the Kumar Vishal trophy picked up 2 quick wickets while skipper Neptune Gaming got Madd Genius from the other end. Bad Boys were now 5 down for just 205!! Nilay Shah came for his third spell and he got Struwig out straightaway. Schwanstegger and Fischer added few runs and it seemed that Bad Boys would win comfortably before a direct hit from Mohsin ran out Fischer. Nilay Shah got Biswas out in his last over finishing with figures of 4/47 in his 10 overs. With 6 needed from 24 and 2 wickets in hand skipper Neptune came to bowl and he got out Franklin Jacob on the 1st ball. Schwanstegger was back on strike with 4 to win but his stay was ended as he edged onto his stumps batting on 57. Bad Boys bowled out on 256 as the Avengers won by 3 runs.

Avengers won their 10th match of TPCL One-Day history in their historic 20th match becoming only the 2nd team to do so after Lannister who won exactly 10 matches.

We interviewed the One-Day vice-Captain of The Avengers- Nilay Shah before the match. Let us listen from him:-

Interviewer: I've got the Avengers One-Day vice-Captain Nilay Shah alongside me,
Nilay, tell us something about this special occassion of your team.
Nilay Shah: Yeah it's a great occassion for us to be playing the 20th match and becoming the 1st team to do so in TPCL history infront of our home crowd and that too in a Final. The atmosphere over here is just electrifying. Honestly, I am having goosebumps.

Interviewer: You as a side had lost the last match by 130 runs and after that to have a full-house here in the very next match is just amazing, isn't it?
Nilay Shah: I think it's about the loyalty of our fans. It's a great motivation to still receive the backing of your fans through your worst days and this is where we feel a lot positive. We just want to win this one for our fans.

Interviewer: How is the team environment after losing your previous game?
Nilay Shah: We are motivated as ever as we feel we have nothing to lose. We just want to take it one match at a time and eventually the results will follow. If we don't win then the opposition was just better on that day and we need to improve as a side. No hard feelings there!

Interviewer: Will you be hurt as a side if you don't win this tournament?
Nilay Shah: Look, every team out there wants to go on the field and win matches. So it's the same for us. Obviously it would be disappointing to lose after putting behind all that hard-work that we did. But again, you don't keep beating yourself over and over again. You need to look ahead and improve as a side. And this is what The Avengers side believes.

Interviewer: Tell us something about your journey with The Avengers
Nilay Shah: See the first season I wasn't the part of this league so I couldn't comment much on that. The 2nd season I joined the TPCL and was perhaps the last player to get sold that season. And it was this side that gave me an opportunity to become the part of this league. As far as I remember there was a lot of hype around our team as it was a team from the Hollywood and everyone wanted to know what has this side got? I think we just did not live up to that hype as we did not even win a single game in First Class while we were too late to comeback in the T20 Smash. We did well in the One-dayers but eventually failed to make it to the Finals. So this season, we worked harder as a group and made it to the Finals in Bradman Shield, Kumar Vishal Trophy and look good for making the T20 Super Slam Finals. So I think it is just paying off this season.

Interviewer: You believe that you can make a comeback in this game and live another day into this Kumar Vishal Trophy?
Nilay Shah: We are just up for the challenges and have prepared ourselves in a better way for this match. So I hope we just win this one!!

Interviewer: Thanks for your time Nilay, have a great game!!!
Nilay Shah: Sure!

T20 Super Slam Pre-Final Analysis

ZWVBHfg.png
MEWs6Cp.png

TPCL Staff.

20:12 IST

So it's the 2nd time we are having a Final between Bad Boys and The Avengers, this time at Lord's. Two Finals in two different formats clearly shows that these are 2 of the best limited overs side this time around in TPCL 3.0. Unlike the Kumar Vishal Trophy both these sides had well and truly dominated the T20 Super Slam being on the top of the table right since the start of the tournament. Both teams had won 4 matches each in the group stage and the only factor that separated these 2 sides was their NRR. 2 of the 4 games that Bad Boys won were won through Super Over speaks about the quality of their ability to choke their opponents. The Avengers on the other hand have also won few close games and have just beaten the Royal Mavericks in the Semi-Final at the Floating Marvel by 6 runs. So we can expect a cracking contest between these 2 sides.

1. The Average Score:

Average score batting first in TPCL 3.0 is 174 while most of the team have won defending a score no more than 178. Although, The Wild Force did chase down 213 against The Avengers at the Floating Marvel. The score that Avengers fail to defend is actually the highest score in TPCL 3.0.

Now let us talk about Lord's! The average 1st innings score batting first at Lord's is 184 which makes it clear that this ground is a batsman's paradise. Although, no team have won a match chasing a score of more than 165 at this ground.

2. The Winning formula:

The patterns that are followed in the T20 Super Slam are pretty much scattered and there is no perfect formula for winning. The best thing would be to give out the best in the entire 40 overs of the game and see who comes out on top. Although at Lord's, as a batting side you do need to target somewhere around that 180-mark since the surface doesn't change over the course of the match over here.

3. Head to Head records:

Teams
Bad Boys
The Avengers

Matches Won (2 matches)
0
2

If something should worry the Bad Boys then it is this number. Bad Boys have lost both their matches against The Avengers in this format and it might take some good effort for them to beat The Avengers. But if we look at the rest of the tournament, Bad Boys have been more dominant and hence they stand as favourites.

The Avengers do not have best of records while playing in a T20 match away from home and neither the Bad Boys have outrightly won at home so both teams stand at equal in these terms. However, The Avengers are an improved side this season winning 2 of their 3 matches away from home. So this is something that the Bad Boys must look into.

5. Top Performers

If we have a look at the top performers in the T20 Super Slam then, Asad Raza have owned the Orange Cap scoring 299 runs in 7 innings on the other hand, Parth K have been really consistent averaging 59.33 with the bat scoring at a strike rate of 152.14. Raza is not behind in his striking ability as he too has a strike rate of 173.84!!! Parth K as an opener have done even better with that strike rate scoring at 154.46 with best of 78. Chris Swift is also just a run behing Parth K while Talha Hayat is close to getting that orange cap from his team mate scoring 259 runs.

Mohsin has the Purple Cap as he has taken 13 wickets thus far. On the other hand Naman has 9 wickets but his economy is little concerning since it is 9.18. Biswas have done better than his partner Naman A7 having an economy of 8.14 taking 8 wickets. While Schwanstegger have been the real threat of in Bad Boys bowling line-up averaging 17.46 with the ball.

6. Thorn in the Fleshes

Well this is my favourite part of the analysis since it makes the rivalry between the sides more intense.

If we look at it no one have been as consistent against a single side than The Avengers vice-Captain Kuldip Pargi who averages 81 with the bat against the Bad Boys and who can forget that innings at the Floating Marvel where he single handedly won the game for The Avengers? Madd Genius averages 55 with the bat against The Avengers but Muller's knock of 34*(18) was really close to being a match winning innings only had Nilay Shah not defended 4 runs in the last over of the match. With Parth K, Modi, Nazim, Swift, Rudi and Muller around, one cannot really fit in Genius in the line-up.

Kumarjit Biswas have taken most wickets (3) in the Bad Boys v/s Avengers contest while one cannot keep Nilay Shah out when it comes to the game against the Bad Boys. He has taken only 2 wickets but yet his economy of 7.50 can be the difference.

7. Stars of Lord's Cricket ground

Chris Swift have scored 112 runs averaging 56 at Lord's scoring more than 63% of his runs in the tournament at this venue. His strike rate of 155.56 also looks impressive!!! Talha Hayat had scored 77 runs at Lord's the last time he played while Asad Raza also scored 54.

Naman A7 have taken 5 wickets but is expensive as his economy is 10.36!! Biswas have taken 3 wickets but averages more than 25 which is a worrying sign for the Bad Boys. Someone like Mohsin would enjoy bowling at the Lord's as he proved it with a spell of 1/29 in his 4 overs in the only match he played at Lord's.

8. Bowling analysis

Pacers have averaged 39.25 taking 16 wickets while spinners have averaged 37.17 taking 12 wickets in 3 games at Lord's. Economy wise pacers have done better at this venue conceding at 8.85 runs per over. While spinners have conceded at 9.56 runs per over. Gives an idea that there is not much scope for the bowlers over here. And with The Avengers over-reliant on their openers Bad Boys stand a better chance against them.

The Avengers lift the Kumar Vishal Trophy

3jfdqsumyo-jpg.256136

TPCL Staff.

17:38 IST

With the Kumar Vishal Trophy Final being levelled at 1-1, The Avengers met the Bad Boys for the 3rd time at The Floating Marvel in the Finals series. The winner of this match would've lifted the Kumar Vishal Trophy. Bad Boys had won the first Final by 130 runs while the 2nd Final was a close affair which The Avengers won by 3 runs . So after that sort of bounce back it was pretty clear that this was going to be the most intense Final clash of all-times in TPCL history.

The Avengers won the toss and chose to bat first on what looked like a typical Floating Marvel pitch. Although after few overs it became pretty clear that the surface had lost a bit of pace and had become a dead track. All this meant that this was going to be a high-scoring contest. The Avengers openers, Ahmed Leo and Sod Anderson dominated the Bad Boys bowlers in such a way that the leading wicket-taker of the tournament Franklin Jacob did not complete the full quota of overs. His figures read 0/32 in 4 overs as he looked completely ineffective. Maybe a bit of complacency or a sign of tiredness.

Sod & Leo put on a 175-run partnership for the opening stand before Schwanstegger dismissed Ahmed Leo out caught behind for 87(96). Raza-Sod pair did not last long either as Sod Anderson got out to Ohm Fischer on 80. Talha Hayat joined Asad Raza at the crease at 203/2. Just when Raza had started to look dangerous, the leading run-scorer of The Avengers till that point got out lbw to Rukanah's accurate and pacy bowling on 18. With 3 quick wickets, the Bad Boys seemed to be repeating what The Avengers did in their previous match while defending their score of 259.

Appu Kiran started his counter-attack as he took on the Bad Boys bowlers. Talha Hayat also joined in the carnage after a steady start to his innings. Appu Kiran continued to attack but he perished to Fadhl Rukunah being caught on the boundary by Madd Genius on 39. The Avengers scored 56 in the last 5 overs of the innings for the loss of just one wicket. Talha scored 80*(55) taking his team to a very good total of 339/4. Fadhl Rukunah ended with figures of 2/58 in his 10 overs while Fischer and Schwanstegger got a wicket each. The Bad Boys batting line-up now had a huge task ahead infront of them since this was the highest ever score at The Floating Marvel and no team had chased a score in excess of 230 at this venue.

Lalit Modi and Parth K got off to a slow start and were put under pressure by Nilay Shah and Mohsin's tight line and length with Kiran giving away just 2 runs from his first over. With the increasing run-rate, it was important for them to target a particular bowler to get some momentum into the innings. They chose Appu Kiran's 2nd over by scoring 14 runs of his 2nd over, the 8th of the innings. Both openers scored their half-centuries by the end of 15 overs. Modi was the first wicket to fall being caught behind by Hayat off Dylan Smith on 66. With that innings, Lalit Modi went past Dikshansh Darshan's 416 runs to become the leading run-score of the Kumar Vishal Trophy.

In the span of next 5 overs, with just 11 runs coming in those over, Parth K had to take a risk and in turn he perished to The Avengers Captain Gaming on 60. Couple of overs later, Madd Genius who struggled his way to a 26-ball 10 got out caught on the boundary off Neptune. At 152/3 in 26 overs, The Avengers were clearly ahead in the game. However, Schwanstegger who was joined by Chris Swift added a quick 50-run partnership bringing up the 200 in the 35th over. Gaming brought himself back in the attack as he got Swift for 31. Skipper Umair Nazim who had dropped himself owing to a poor form came out to bat in his comeback match with Bad Boys needing 138 runs to win in just 90 balls. Nazim who had struggled for runs was seeing the ball better than anyone else in this match as he smashed a couple of sixes in one over to the inexperienced Dylan Smith.

With 101 required off the last 10 overs, the Bad Boys had to give out their all. Schwanstegger scored his 4th half century this season and his 2nd in consecutive matches. Nilay Shah was seemed to be very economical in the context of the match in his 7 overs ended up conceding 11 of his 8th. But this was followed by a maiden over from Appu Kiran. But Bad Boys somehow kept up with the rate. Nazim brought up his first half century of the season in just 25 balls!! He smashed 16 runs of Nilay's last over as the Bad Boys were motoring along now to their target. Kiran gave away 11 runs in his last over with The Avengers requiring to defend 12 off the last over. Mohsin was given the responsibility to bowl the final over. Schwanstegger got a single off the first ball bringing back the dangerous looking Umair back on strike. Mohsin bowled 4 dots in a row and had the Bad Boys thinking whether it was the wrong decision to give Nazim the strike. On the 5th delivery, he struck the ball firmly and somehow managed to hit a boundary. With 7 needed off the last ball, the pressure was getting intense. The equation was simple for The Avengers to win, just avoid conceding a six. Hayat was brought up to the wickets to discourage Nazim from stepping out. Mohsin bowled a length ball in the slot to which Nazim hit a pull and deposited the ball into the stands.

A tie in the Finals to be followed by a Super Over? Wow, gives us 2019 WC Final vibes!!!

The Avengers decided to bowl their trump card Nilay Shah in the Super Over bowling to Umair Nazim & Lalit Modi. Shah looked clearly ineffective being hit for boundaries on consecutive deliveries by Umair Nazim. He somehow got him off strike on the third delivery. Lalit Modi also smashed a couple of boundaries but got out on the last ball of the Super Over caught at point trying to hit his 3rd consecutive boundary.

Talha Hayat took the strike accompanied by Sod Anderson as they had to score 16 off Rukunah's over. Rukunah nearly took away Talha's off stump starting with a dot. Hayat smashed a short ball for a boundary which Rukunah followed up with a wide. On Modi's advice, he pitched it full to which Hayat stepped out and hit him over cover for a one bounce four. Rukunah's 4th ball resulted in a couple more followed by a single from Talha. With 4 required off the last ball, Sod Anderson pulled it towards mid-wicket and won the Kumar Vishal Trophy for the side.

With all that talk of Neptune's leadership, Nilay's brilliance, Sod's consistency at the top...... Talha Hayat's contribution was something that went a little unnoticed. He was one such player who scored match after match for them and that too in pressure situations and hence deserves a lot of credit. Without him, Avengers wouldn't have been able to soak so much pressure that they were put under in so many games. This was one player who looked a little out of form in the One day leg and managed to be a little more consistent in the First Class competition played a lone-hand in the T20s the last season for them. People had known his abilities back in the days but this tournament win was something that would perhaps be fitting for the contribution that he has made!!!

Talha Hayat fires, Dikshansh and Bigby Wolf doesn't

Table toppers The Avengers who stormed their way into the Bradman Shield Finals after being last till Round 2 faced the defending Champions Royal Mavericks at The Floating Marvel after who edged past the Bad Boys in a close victory at Lord's. The Avengers won the toss and elected to field first. What followed was a crackling contest between the 2 top sides.

Royal Mavericks came out to bat first on a surface that is known for supporting the batsman providing a little assistance to the spinners. They got off to the most perfect start with Ali Bubere scoring a boundary off Nilay Shah on the very first ball of the match. Gokul Raj Kamaraj who was playing equally aggressively at the other end got out lbw to Mohsin 7827 just 5 runs short of his half century. Royal Mavericks scored 133/1 in the first session of Day 1. After the lunch break when they resumed to bat first they lost Bubere to Gaming on 67 and the short stay of Van Divine at the crease ended by Dylan Smith. The Dikshansh-Singh pair took a while as Aakash Singh started taking on the bowlers once he got his eyes in. At 235/3, Royal Mavericks looked in a comfortable position to breach that 330 mark. In the final session, The Avengers bowlers were all over the batsmen as Royal Mavericks lost 7 wickets for just 34 runs to get bowled out on 279. Nobody apart from Bubere and Singh stayed longer at the crease as they scored 67 & 60 respectively. The spin bowling duo of Gaming & Dylan shared 6 wickets between them while Mohsin 7827 took 4/54. Nilay Shah had a forgettable outing as he failed to take any wickets and conceded 82 runs in his 19 overs. The Avengers skipper Ahmed Leo hit a six on the first ball of his inning but his stay lasted only 4 balls as he got out in the next over to Yash Hirani. Asad Raza batted aggressively till the end of the day as The Avengers ended Day 1 on 74/1.

Raza continued from where he had left the previous day on Day 2. He was later joined by Sanjeev Patil as he overtook Raza scoring a run-a-ball 88 before he got out to Sanchit Garg. Raza scored his century in just 117 balls. Royal Mavericks came back strongly in the 2nd session with Incognito getting Raza for 113 while Saffron dismissed Sod Anderson and Barry Stock. Musk and vice-Captain Dylan Smith did not last long either. The Avengers managed to score 120 runs but lost 5 wickets in the 2nd session. It looked as if the Royal Mavericks would comeback into the game since 7 wickets were lost already and the lead was just 70. However, it was once again Talha Hayat with his brilliance as he added 61 for the 8th wicket along with Mohsin 7827 who scored 13 runs off 64 deliveries. Hayat brought up his century in 142 balls. Avengers ended the Day with a 152 run lead. They added 29 more runs to the total as they got bowled out on 459. Hayat was unbeaten on 116. Princess Saffron claimed 4/62.

Even after trailing by 180 runs the Mavericks openers Kamaraj and Ali Bubere began their 2nd innings with a positive approach. Kamaraj raised his half-century in just 62 deliveries and went on to score 79 adding 145 for the first wicket. Bubere also scored 81 getting out to Mohsin while Nilay dismissed Van Divine. Couple of over later, Mohsin also dismissed Dikshansh Darshan on just 6! At Tea on Day 3, Royal Mavericks were 211/4 taking a 35 run lead with 6 wickets in hand. Mohsin took 1 more wicket completely derailing the momentum of the Royal Mavericks. By the end of Day 3, Nilay Shah and Musk got a wicket each. Yash Hirani in the last over of Day 3 stepped out to Dylan Smith and hit a massive six down towards the sight screen. With the positivity that Hirani was playing it looked as if he was up for something special. He added another 30 more runs batting with the tail as Royal Mavericks were bowled out for 315 with Avengers need 136 to win. Mohsin ended with figures of 8/111 for the match.

The Avengers were in all sorts of trouble at 17/4. Bigby Wolf and Incognito took 2 wickets each. Barry Stock played aggressively while Talha tried to work around the strike and play for as long as possible. Suman Mohanty dropped Stock on 23 and it was perhaps the turning point in the match. Stock went on to score 58 getting out to Guy Incognito but he received a standing ovation for that incredible knock!!! Talha Hayat once again came into the scheme of things as he also scored an unbeaten 58 and went unbeaten throughout the match. He scored 174 runs for the match and received the Man of the match award.

Royal Mavericks should now be wary off Talha and Mohsin in the next Final and they would need their middle order to support Ali Bubere and Gokul Raj Kamaraj. Their fielders also would need to ensure that they don't give chance to The Avengers batters. Bowling just need to ensure that they don't concede too much to the lower order. As for The Avengers, skipper Ahmed Leo would need to tone down his aggressive batting a bit and look to take some time out in the middle. Their experienced pacer, Nilay Shah would need to pick up wickets while spinners would be their key.

We look forward to another epic Finals at The Floating Marvel!!!!

Ali Bubere special!!!

TPCL Staff.

The 2nd of the 3 Finals of the Don Bradman Shield between Royal Mavericks and The Avengers was played at The Floating Marvel. The Avengers won the toss and elected to field first. The decision was quickly vindicated by Nilay Shah was he managed to dismiss Ali Bubere and Dikshansh Darshan very early in the innings with the Royal Mavericks reeling at 18/2. Suman Mohanty and Gokul Raj Kamaraj played in their usual aggressive way and built on a 78-run partnership before Nilay Shah came back and dismissed Kamaraj for 29. Royal Mavericks went into lunch on Day 1 at 103/4. Aakash Singh & Van Divine played with caution and somehow brought the Royal Mavericks into a decent position. Singh scored 28 while skipper Van Divine went on to score 66. Yash Hirani carried his good form from the last game as he scored 44 while Mittal who was making his comeback in the side supported him with a steady knock of 20 from 93. Guy Incognito also showed some great resilience staying there for about 8 overs. The Avengers wrapped up the things quickly on Day 2 as Royal Mavericks were bowled out on 284. Nilay Shah who did not look in the best of forms thus far in the tournament took 3/56 while Neptune Gaming got 3/59.

Both openers got off to aggressive start for The Avengers but skipper Leo unfortunately missed out on his half century by a run. Asad Raza who scored a 100 in the last game this time got out on 63. Sanjeev Patil, Sod Anderson & Barry Stock scored 56, 84 & 33 respectively while Talha Hayat scored 80. With 5 of the top 6 of The Avengers scoring in excess of 40 of which 4 of them scoring their half centuries, Royal Mavericks bowling looked completely demoralised. The Avengers scored 479 all out and looked on their way to lifting the Don Bradman Shield title without needing to play the 3rd Final. Bigby Wolf took 3/95 while Incognito got 3/128. Princess Saffron also got 2 wickets.

Royal Mavericks were in no mood to give up as they put on a 128-run partnership for the opening stand with Kamaraj just like Leo getting dismissed one short of a half-century. Suman Mohanty came out all guns blazing as he scored a quickfire half-century. Aakash Singh also scored a steady 52 followed by 30 from the Royal Mavericks Captain. Ali Bubere soon scored his century and he went on to score a magnificient 143 to become the leading run-scorer for the Don Bradman Shield 2021. Bubere received a strong support in Yash Mittal who scored 84! Royal Mavericks plundered 519 runs in their 2nd innings. Neptune Gaming picked up 3 wickets to become the leading wicket-taker of Don Bradman Shield 2021.

With The Avengers need 328 to win in about 60 overs, they surely would've been eyeing to win the game and this is where Royal Mavericks could've created chances to get their wickets. All hopes soon vanished as the Raza-Ahmed Leo pair added 126 runs. Royal Mavericks did get Patil early but now they rather looked to restrict The Avengers rather than getting wickets. This eventually worked as The Avengers Captain Ahmed Leo got out of frustration trying to up the scoring rate getting out on 96. Mind you he was a real threat and easily could've won the game for his side had he stayed!!! The Avengers feel short by 89 runs at the end as Royal Mavericks draw the 2nd Final with them. Now, there is an interesting scenario- If Royal Mavericks win the next game they would share the title with The Avengers.

The 3rd Final is now going to be played at Lord's and is expected to offer a surface with a lot of grass and the overcast weather might come into play. The pacers are going to get a lot of help from the surface while the spinners would be expected to keep things tight. With the Nilay-Mohsin-Musk trio not in the best of forms and the Royal Mavericks being over-dependent on Bigby Wolf, the batting of both these sides is going to be crucial in the 3rd Final. Both teams are pretty aggressive when it comes to the batting and with the surface going to seam around for a longer period, they would need to cut down on it big time! The one who bats out their opponent is expected to win over here!!!!

The Avengers claims 2 titles in a season...... One to go!!!!

The Avengers have repeated the feat that Royal Mavericks had achieved in the previous season of TPCL. After winning the Kumar Vishal Trophy by beating the Bad Boys in a Super Over to win the 3-match Final series 2-1, The Avengers side comprehensively beat the Royal Mavericks 2-0.

The 3rd Final that was held at the Lord's Cricket Ground in London on a pitch that hadn't been used upto that point in the Don Bradman Shield this season turned out to be a dramatic Finale. On a lively green pitch where pacers were going to get some help, Royal Mavericks won the toss and put their opposition in to bat first. The Avengers lost both their openers with just 7 runs on the board. Sanjeev Patil & Sod Anderson brought The Avengers into a decent position before Patil got out to Yash Hirani caught behind on 25. Sod Anderson got out lbw to Guy Incognito soon after. The Avengers went in to lunch on Day 1 at 95/5!!! Talha Hayat came to the crease and counter attacked the Royal Mavericks but failed to convert his start into a big score. The Avengers collapsed after they lost Talha to get bowled out on 130 (the lowest score in Don Bradman Shield in TPCL 3.0- The Wild Force made a similar score at same venue on a rank turner). Bigby Wolf who had been their pick of the bowlers thus far in the season took 3/24 while Guy Incognito took 4/34. It seemed that Ali Bubere has ignited a new life into the finals series after he scored that 146 in the 2nd Final.

The Royal Mavericks were off to a positive start. But there were some signs of complacency as Gokul Raj Kamaraj flicked a ball straight into the hands of Nilay Shah on the boundary line with Mohsin 7827 getting the first breakthrough!!! Nilay Shah with his express pace was enjoying bowling on that green turf as he bowled with incredible discipline conceding at just about 1 run per over unlike The Floating Marvel where he struggled even after bowling some good ones. Ali Bubere right after the Tea break got out bowled to Dylan Smith on 40. At 79/3, Aakash Singh joined Dikhshansh Darshan as the Mavericks did not lose a wicket for the rest of the day. They went on to put up a 101-run stand for the 4th wicket before Aakash Singh got out on 45. Irrespective of the match situations, Dikshansh Darshan looked very calm out there in the middle playing the ball on merit scoring on every opportunity while leaving the good ones quite comfortably. He went on to score 122 on the most difficult pitches to bat this season which talked a lot about the character of that man. Although, The Avengers bowlers ensured that Royal Mavericks didn't go too ahead with their lead with at one stage look a definite 200+. Surprisingly on a seaming surface like such the spinners Neptune & Smith shared 6 wickets in between them. Nilay Shah was the most economical bowler taking 2/38 in 25.2 overs, quite a long disciplined spell that!!

Trailing the Royal Mavericks by 148 runs, The Avengers showed no signs of backing down as they applied themselves a lot more on that surface than they did in their 1st innings. The pitch getting slightly better was another thing that helped them. Ahmed Leo scored a brilliant 35 to start things off. It was once again the pair of Patil & Anderson who got themselves in. Sanjeev Patil continued his consistent run of form as he scored 80 taking The Avengers into the lead. Sod Anderson just dropped the anchor and batted with great patience. Barry Stock arrived at the crease and batted as if he was given some license to go after the bowling at all costs. He scored 42 off just 51 balls before he got out bowled to Sanchit Garg. At 224/4, it looked like the match was still in the grip of the Royal Mavericks but Talha Hayat had other ideas. He continued from where Stock had left off and scored a 42-ball half century. It looked as if Royal Mavericks had no idea about how to stop the carnage. Sod Anderson got out on 72 off 163 and proved to be a great help to The Avengers. A real match defining innings was played by Talha Hayat who went on to score 133. Musk also showed why he was important to the side by scoring some real useful runs at the back end. The Avengers scored 448 all out in their 2nd innings giving Royal Mavericks a target of 301 runs to chase. A massive ask in the context of the game with no so good conditions on offer.

Under Overcast conditions, Royal Mavericks struggled to keep out from the swinging ball. It seemed that the Mavericks had no way back in the game after that Singh-Darshan partnership in the 1st innings had ended. Van Divine was the top-scorer in the 2nd innings for the Royal Mavericks who scored 39 as he got run-out to a brilliance from Talha Hayat who dived onto the stumps. The match had going in a one dimensional flow. Royal Mavericks got bowled out for 200 runs losing the match by a 100-run margin! It was Nilay Shah who finally got the reward for the discipline with which he was bowling throughout the tournament as he got 4/50 in the 2nd innings finishing with figures of 6/88 in the match. Those were his best figures in the TPCL and what a day he chose to achieve it. It is always said that, Champion sides aren't born but they rise when the stakes are completely against them and hence you see every player stand up for The Avengers when it mattered the most for them.

They truly are a Champions side does The Avengers and deserve every bit of their success this season. There is one more tournament that they would be eyeing to win and it's the T20 Super Slam. If they win it, it would be a historic moment as they would become the first side to win 3 tournaments in a single season of TPCL. But standing ahead of them are the Bad Boys who badly are in a need to win. A wounded Lion is the most dangerous so does the Bad Boys who would be up for a revenge for their loss in the Kumar Vishal Trophy Finals. The Avengers are ready to take on the world and they would give their everything to win! Are you ready TPCL fans? Keep an eye on the T20 Super Slam Finals, Bad Boys v/s The Avengers.

Biswas magic nearly wins it for Bad Boys

anilkumble.jpg

TPCL Staff.

16:38 IST

Bad Boys bowler Kumarjit Biswas turned up with a special bowling performance taking 2/26 almost derailing The Avengers from the chase of 173 as the Bad Boys took 2 wickets in the very first over. The match ended in a Tie with the Bad Boys eventually losing in the Super Over. The Avengers go 1-0 up in the best of 3 Finals series.

Bad Boys who already reached the Finals before faced The Avengers who after beating the Royal Mavericks in a Semi-Final reached the Finals. Bad Boys in their home conditions got the advantage as they won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to an excellent start scoring 24/0 in the first 2 overs. A tight over from Nilay Shah was followed by Mohsin's brilliance as he got out the dangerous looking Umair Nazim in his 2nd over. However, Lalit Modi came in and smashed Nilay Shah for a 12-run over and got 7 off Neptune Gaming's first over. Bad Boys ended the Powerplay being 57/1. It looked the Bad Boys would get to somewhere around 200 quite comfortably.

However, skipper Asad Raza immediately turned towards his all-rounder Dylan Smith's leg-break bowling as he got out Lalit Modi for 21. Neptune Gaming bowled a dream delivery to Chris Swift that pitched outside leg and hit the top of off-stump as he claimed his first wicket in the T20 Super Slam. Parth K who was playing at a decent rate scored 35 but any hopes for a big score from him were crashed as he edged a quicker delivery from Nilay Shah onto his stumps. Müller Schwanstegger ensured that he occupied one end to not let Bad Boys collapse as he scored 32. Some lusty blows from Varun Stokes and a boundary from Kumarjit Biswas ensured that they finish on 172/7 in their 20 overs.

The Avengers pulled things back but 173 was a very good score in a Final match against a quality opposition like the Bad Boys. The Avengers were confident that if their top order plays well they would be easily through the chase.

Kumarjit Biswas was given the new ball to deliver his magic. He did not disappoint as he got The Avengers skipper who also happens to be the leading run-scorer in the T20 Super Slam Asad Raza out bowled in the 2nd ball of the innings. This was followed by a run-out of Ahmed Leo who got out to a direct hit from Franklin Jacob. Sod Anderson walked in to the crease as he joined Talha Hayat at the score of 0/2. Anderson hadn't looked in great form thus far as he had scored only 85 runs in 6 innings with a strike rate of under 120s. He smashed the Bad Boys bowlers all around the park. Talha on the other hand played conventional Cricketing shots. The Avengers scored 48/2 in the Powerplay and had somewhat recovered to a good position. They brought up their 50 partnership in the 7th over. Talha Hayat got out to Jacob before he accelerated as he scored 34 off 27 balls. Sod Anderson went on to score 77 off 46 balls.

Barry Stock and Musk joined each other at the crease with 50 runs required off 32 balls. They unleashed themselves in Jacob's last over managing 14 runs off the 18th over. Schwanstegger just gave away 5 in the 19th over giving Bad Boys more of a chance to defend their score in the last over. Rudi Struwig was given the ball in the last over. He gave away just 6 off 4 balls. Stock somehow managed a boundary off the 2nd last delivery and scampered through a run off the last ball. Scores were tied just like the T20 Finals in the last season off TPCL 2 that was won by the Lannisters.

Kumarjit Biswas was given the ball in the Super Over. Asad Raza smashed a six on the very first ball followed by a single. Talha Hayat missed one but managed to give the strike back to Raza as he smashed the 2nd six in the Super Over. The Avengers got 16 in the Super Over. Umair Nazim and Parth K gave out their everything but can't find a single boundary facing Mohsin 7827 as The Avengers went 1-0 up in this incredible encounter.

The Avengers could not rest now as the Bad Boys might come harder at them in the next game. Bad Boys bowlers would need to support Kumarjit and their pacers Fadhl-Franklin would need to keep it tight. Their batsman would need to convert their start into a big score to challenge the mighty Avengers batting line-up whose middle order have peaked just at the right time. As for The Avengers, just keep it simple and get the basics right and not release the pressure that they've put on their opponent.

Wait for the cracker of a second Finale!!!!!!

Umair Nazim tears apart The Avengers and pushes them to shreds!!!!

In the 2nd Final against The Avengers at Lord's, Umair Nazim scored a century as he took Bad Boys to a mammoth score of 218/4 in their 20 overs. The Avengers batsman tried as hard as they could but fell short by 17 runs as the 3-match Final series is levelled now at 1-1.

The Avengers won the toss and as usual elected to field first. Bad Boys made few changes to their line-up as Parth K was moved back to the middle order and Lalit Modi was asked to open. This move paid off beautifully as Bad Boys smashed 65 runs in the Powerplay losing the wicket of Lalit Modi on 28 as he played the aggressor in the first wicket partnership of 53 runs with Umair Nazim who scored 21 runs. After the fall of the first wicket Nazim scored a boundary or 2 every over. Parth K showed no signs of mercy from the other end as he too played with a lot of aggression. Dylan Smith got Parth K out bowled 10 runs short from his half century on 40. The only bowler who had kept it tight thus far was Nilay Shah who had given 18 runs in his 3 overs. Nazim didn't let him away with a tight spell as he scored a couple of boundaries preceded by a boundary from Chris Swift as Nilay conceded 14 runs in his last over. Umair Nazim hit a six to Musk to bring up his century. He went on to score 115 as he got out bowled to Musk in the last over of the innings. The Avengers had somehow pulled it back in the last 5 overs conceding 48 runs and claiming 2 wickets. But the first 15 overs went for 170/2 which was too much in the context of this match. Bad Boys scored 218/4 in their 20 overs. Musk was the most expensive bowler for The Avengers as he conceded 56 runs in his 4 overs. The purple Cap holder Mohsin went wicketless in his 4 overs as he conceded 42 runs.

The Avengers had to chase down 219 which was too much to chase considering that this was the Final and their middle order hadn't fired much. Bad Boys kept it tight and made the scoring difficult for The Avengers. They lost their skipper Raza for just 5 runs. Talha Hayat though had other ideas. He hit 3 fours and a couple of sixes in Schwanstegger's over followed by a boundary in Naman A7's over. But he went for a shot one too many to get caught by Struwig on the mid-wicket boundary scoring 45 in 19 balls. Leo & Anderson made it sure that they kept the run-rate intact by finding boundaries at regular intervals. Leo got out on 45 to Rukanah. Sod Anderson struck 20 runs of Rukanah's last over. Fall of regular wickets impacted their run-rate. Needing 25 off the last over, The Avengers showed no intent whatsoever as they lost by 17 runs. Sod Anderson scored an unbeaten 66.

This win would've given a lot of confidence to the Bad Boys before the 3rd Final. The Avengers need to be wary of this and must get things together if they are to win the T20 Super Slam.

For the last time, do catch up the 3rd Finale!!!!

Bad Boys lift the T20 Super Slam Title

srh-ipl-1576770935.jpg

TPCL Staff.

18:04 IST

The Orange Army as they say have eventually got for what they were striving for. Bad Boys have defeated The Avengers by just 1 run at Lord's to claim their 2nd victory in the 3rd Finals and win the Finals series 2-1 after losing in the first finals to The Avengers.

After beating The Avengers in the 2nd Final at Lord's by 17 runs riding on Umair Nazim's century, Bad Boys won the toss and elected to field first. Nilay Shah started off with a good first over, but the Bad Boys openers Nazim and Lalit Modi ensured that they kept up with the rate. They put on 83 runs for the 1st wicket. Musk got Nazim out for 43. This was followed by Shah dismissing Parth K for a low score of just 13! Lalit Modi who was playing his last game in TPCL scored 58 from 40. Chris Swift and Schwanstegger added some quick runs followed by a decent finish from Rudi Struwig. Bad Boys put on a massive score of 190/4 on the board. Musk was the pick of the bowler as he took 1/27 in his 4 overs dismissing the dangerous Umair Nazim. The spinners Dylan and Neptune got a wicket each but both of them went at more than 10 runs an over. Purple Cap holder Mohsin also went wicketless while Nilay Shah who just conceded 18 in his 3 overs went for 12 in his last over finishing with figures of 1/36 on perhaps what could be his last game for The Avengers.

The Avengers would have hoped to not lose an early wicket and keep Kumarjit on the bay. It took just 6 deliveries for Biswas to get a wicket even though when he went for 9 in his first over, he did his job by getting the skipper Raza out for a low score. The Avengers though played at a healthy rate in the Powerplay scoring 50/1. Biswas came back in the 8th over and got Ahmed Leo out. Talha Hayat was once again playing a great knock and everything once again lied on the shoulders of this batsman of great calibre Sod Anderson unlike the 2nd Final got out for a run-a-ball 7 this time. Biswas into his 3rd over got Talha out on 72 as it became incredibly difficult for The Avengers as they had lost 4 wickets and still needed 81 off just 52 deliveries. The Avengers needed someone to stand for them. Neither Barry Stock nor Kuldip Pargi were able to do it for them. X Æ A-12 Musk however played his best knock in the tournament with some clean striking at the death. With just 13 required in the last over, Bad Boys took the risk by bowling Naman A7 who did not look in a great form with the ball throughout the tournament. He ended up conceding 8 in the first 4 balls. The Avengers need just 5 from 2 balls now. A clean strike would've sealed it for them. The Avengers just got 3 runs and eventually lost by a run. Talks about the way Bad Boys handle pressure in the stakes are up against them. Their calmness in pressure situation made them a better side on the day.

An incredible finish that to this edition of TPCL with a lot of nail-biters at the end to conclude it. Bad Boys and The Avengers looked probably the best of the lot when it came to white-ball Cricket and one delivery is the all that separates them. We certainly cannot chose a better side between them. However, The Avengers winning the Don Bradman Shield might help them edge out a bit but for me it is hard to choose between them.

At the end, it's not the performance that matters but the competitiveness, the team spirit and the memories that the teams got from it was all that matters. TPCL is always going to be about getting well with each other and having fond memories for the members. We would just hope that under @Na Maloom Afraad and his team, the TPCL continues to carry that charisma!!!
