Your Cricket Oiling faced bat?

Common knowledge seems to be that you don't need to oil faced bats (plastic over the front) and that you can just do the toe if that's not covered.
Surely, these bats need an oil at some point in their life?

are you talking about extra-tec? or the cheaper bats with like a mesh over the front?

if its extra-tec it should be oiled sometimes, like before it goes on, and when you replace the extra-tec, but it does not need to be done as often

if it has that mesh then no

It's just a clear bit of plastic - quality bat so I imagine the material is good.
The mesh stuff is what people use for repairs isn't it?
Anyway, with the clear plastic - how often does the bat need to be oiled? Why should a bit of plastic suddenyl mean that the bat doesn't need oiling? :)
I know it's pre-oiled when bought but general knowledge says oil at end and start of season. With plastic in the way, it won't do anything.

Found this:
All cricket bats should be serviced at least every two years or so. This involves giving your bat a light sanding and good oiling. To do this with your Faced bat simply remove the Bat Facing. When doing this ensure that you peel the Facing off the bat in a sideways process. In other words, do not peel the Facing off from the top or bottom. Start from one side and peel it off sideways.

Once removed give your cricket bat a light sanding so as to give your blade and edges a smooth feel and appearance. Two light coats of oil as per original instructions and a 4 day period after the last oiling and you can once again apply your new sheet of Bat Facing material.
2 years seems like a long time between oilings and why is there a need to sand down a faced bat?

the plastic will need to be replaced after a year if you use your bat much, it doesnt last a long time. i oil my bat during the season every 3-4 games, just lightly. the information you have there is to do at the end of the season, to sand it back and re-oil.

the plastic preserves the bat longer than if it was just the plain bat face

So, the plastic stops the bat from drying out?
How much sanding should be done on the bat? Just get a sanding machine out and fine sandpaper and sand until any cracks have gone?
If there are no cracks, should I even bother with sanding?

just use a peice of fine sandpaper, and give it a light sand, not much at all. if your cracks are deep you wont get them out.

so just sand, then oil, and give it a light knocking in, but it doesnt need to be as long as the initial knocking in of the bat

What exactly does the sanding do for the bat?

I also need to know about the same thing
I have not put my plastic cover over the bat though
I will put it after lots of knocking and oiling
I dont know anything abiut sanding though

sanding basically just refurbishes the bat a bit, takes away the surface cracks, not exactly sure what it does for performance, but it will last longer thats for sure
