You are up next according to the order that is posted in the first post. I guess it should not follow the same order each time other wise the person going first clearly has an advantage in terms of getting better players upfront.

You are indeed up, I will allow 24h from now. The person who picked first in the previous round is shunted to the back of the list for the next round

James_Southerton.jpg

The man has to be included as he is the oldest ever test debutant and fits well into our team of creaking cricketing codgers: James Sotherton made his debut at the ripe old age of 49 and played in the very first test match, against Australia in 1877. He developed the art of bowling slow. All bowlers until then had used pace to get wickets but Sotherton developed a cunning slow method that became the precursor to spin bowling.

He played in two tests in the winter of '77 in Australia and scored a miserly 7 runs, probably due to the fact that 22 yards was too far for the poor bugger to achieve in one day!

He took 7 test wickets with best bowling figures of 4 for 46 showing he wasn't an utter OAP. Due to other picks Haddin moves up a place......we are in need of a couple of decent pacemen and an All-Rounder.

I am just wondering what we can do to spice this draft up a bit....the interest seems to be waning?

My pick is former Australian captain Jack Ryder. He played just 20 Tests in the 1920s, only against England and South Africa, but averaged 51 with the bat, which was no easy feat at the time. He was also a decent medium pacer. As captain, he was on the selection panel as well, but his fellow selectors dumped him from the captaincy and the team altogether before the 1930 tour to England, ending his rather curious career.

Dilip Doshi is the next player to grace the Dad's Army. A left arm finger spinner who showed amazing control with ball and was patient enough to lure the batsmen into playing false shots. He was someone who was effective not just on Indian wickets but where ever he travelled which is why he also made a name for himself when he played in county cricket. However, he had to toil hard in domestic cricket before he got his India cap at the age of 32. Dilip Doshi and Clarrie Grimmett are the only two spinners who took more than 100 wickets after making their debut past the age of 30. Doshi's India debut came so late because much like other Indian spinners, he had to overcome Bishan Singh Bedi factor. He managed to play 33 tests for India and was an important part of Kapil Dev's bowling attack. When Kapil was removed as the captain, Gavaskar took over. Gavaskar's relationship with Doshi was not so fruitful and it led to his exit from India team.

Overall Pick #20: Dave Houghton
a01eb-15415722273160-800.jpg

Profile
If we're allowed to pick wicket-keepers who never kept wicket in Test matches (looking at Aalay in particular) then I might as well pick one who was actually good at Test cricket. Welcome Dave Houghton, Zimbabwe's first great Test batsman. Batting mostly at number four, he averaged 43.05 across his Test career - a career headlined in particular by a genuinely ridiculous 266 against Sri Lanka in front of home fans. Despite very rarely captaining his country, he was always a leader both on and off the field, which has translated into a coaching career.

He was also an excellent wicket-keeper, but that particular role happened to be the preserve of actual cricketing legend Andy Flower. He therefore limited himself to playing as a specialist batsman in the longest format, but his record in all other forms of cricket is that of a very good keeper in his own right, who would have been more than good enough had they decided that Flower should be the specialist batsman and put him behind the stumps instead.

Statistics
TESTS - :bat: 1,464 runs @ 43.05 (4 centuries, best 266) and :wk: 0 dismissals (17 as a fielder) in 22 matches
FIRST CLASS - :bat: 7,445 runs @ 39.39 (17 centuries, best 266) and :wk: 181 dismissals in 120 matches

Role in the Team

He wants to bat at four, but if he does that and keeps wicket then he'll be exhausted. The longest we could reasonably hold back a batsman of this class is number six, so that's where he's going.

Am frightfully busy at the mo so will do a write-up later: lets have Adam Voges in at five. Anyone who can score 130 on test debut aged nearly 36 (the oldest test debut centurian in the rich history of the game!) is welcome in my line-up! More to come!
