Pakistan cricketers will not feature in the next season of the IPL as their board has failed to obtain their visas before the deadline for confirmation of participation, the league's commissioner, Lalit Modi, said.

"We have been informed by PCB that they have not been able to obtain the visas as of now. So we are not being able to extend the deadline," Modi told Times Now. "Today is the absolute deadline for confirmation of Pakistani players (to take part in IPL). The exchange window is day after tomorrow."

Now the visa matter is again belong to India. As far as I know all interested players have applied for visa before the deadline and what can they do if indian visa office don't want to give them visa.
Moreover I am waiting for news related to this becuase many franchise were looking to get Pakistani players on any cost and they were thinking of making a movement against Modi also.

Not having them is only going to hurt the franchises. Id imagine the likes of Aamir and Umar Akmal will attract big crowds

Yup not only Aamir or Umar but I think whole Pakistan T20 side can attract big crowd.
People are now not having much craze of IPL with poor BCCI policies.

I am happy that we will not be able to sign Abdul Razzaq. Now we will go for Kieron Pollard. I am only sad becasue i thought Umar Akmal and Aamer would play and they are full of talent :(

This is nonsense. The IPL is still 4 months away. Modi can give them one more month for the acquiring of the visa. He is just trying to show that he is strict when it comes to the rules (also coz he had already extended the deadline once and he doesnt want to be seen as "being desperate to bring Pak players into the IPL")

Won't be the same without them bit what can you do. Hopefully a Pakistan team is allowed in the Champions League.

Kind of funny to have a tournament for the best players in the world and then exclude the World Champions :laugh

I am sure. BCCI has a huge role in this.

No Pakistan players in IPL 2010

I had told all of ya a month before itself that Pakistan's participation in the IPL 2010 can be discounted. And now, it has happened.

The IPL governing body extended the deadline for the PCB to Dec 7. The PCB however chose bureaucracy over swiftness and a result of which has meant that the Pakistan players will not be participating in the IPL.

The main reason for this is being attributed to PCB's inability to get basics like visa's in place. Sheesh! If the powers-that-be in Pakistan would have chosen to not fight amongst each other for once, the Pakistani players would be playing in the IPL. Although I'm not surprised, I am disappointed with the lethargic approach of the PCB :facepalm

So now BCCI & IPL is responsible for this mess? Why doesn't someone blame the PCB & the Pakistan government, who just can't stop fighting with each other, a result of which has led to their players being at the aggrieved end of the deal?

As for the visas being India's "fault", IPL had already made it clear to the PCB that "they must obtain the visas by themselves from the Indian consulate". Given the fact that they already knew what they were supposed to do, I don't see why we are to blame. The PCB & the Pakistan government needs to start acting a bit maturely. Despite being given a deadline, they couldn't get a basic thing like a "visa" in place :doh !

PCB should shrug off its lethargy for once :facepalm.

As for the deadline extension, BCCI already extended a deadline specially for Pakistan and extending an already extended deadline is a joke. This is a professional league, not some random Sunday League series, where no one gives a damn whether you show up or don't. Heck, even Sunday Leagues are strict with the rules. BCCI already twisted the rules for the PCB, who chose to stick to their slow, bureaucratic approach, rather than making the most of this extended deadline. Rather than making the most of the deadline, PCB chose to fight with some senator in the government.

It was surprising that No one spoke about-

1. PCB getting a deadline in the first place, which was something that NONE of the other teams got. Wasn't this unfair to them? Doesn't this mean that just because you are not from Pakistan, you have to get things done on time, meet deadlines and hush up the process while people choose to fight amongst each other in the aforementioned country?

2. IPL has a Trading window open. Waiting endlessly for PCB to resolve its issues would have meant extending the period of the Transfer Window as well, which would have resulted in other delays.

3. Why did PCB even need to have a deadline? Can't they complete procedures on time?

And all this is BCCI & IPL's "conspiracy" isn't it? :sarcasm

I love the Pakistani players but their board is as bad as Zimbabwe :facepalm

I can see what you mean RDF.

But I suppose it's unfair for the Pakistani spectators. Give 'em a go!
