On a pitch where there was something in for Bowlers on Day 1 of this decider test, Prats and Puneeth just took New Zealand mediocre bowling to all parts of the ground. Being 165/0 at Tea they thought to attack the New Zealand bowlers and brought 300 runs opening partnership for Australia. New Ball was taken and it gave New Zealand 4 wicket break through with out of form Clarke and Hussey departed cheaply and Hedger and Farhan were on crease at the end of the day. Hedger although have sent a strong message to New Zealand camp by hitting last ball of the days play for a maximum out of ground shot
