First of all thanks everybody for all the support I received for my ?PCkt Value? program in other thread. Please remember that it was meant for fun and something I wrote to practice my newly learned programming skills. But a lot of members asked for more things to be included and ?Ste? also mentioned about possible inclusion of the Vb script in Planetcricket database. So I?ve combined everything that was asked for and came up with the following. Please note that this is completely different than the way my original program worked.
This is actually a proposal for ?Skill Points? to be included in Planetcricket database and should display under each member?s username. Hence I?ve also included a ?Poll? so please vote for the option you believe is correct. And do go through every bit of this post before voting, thanks.
At the moment it all depends on Admins and members approval and after which we will have to come up with a Php script to make it happen. Our highly skilful member ?Prakash? has come forward to help on this. So once approved it will be his creation, so credit will and must go to him.
?Skill Points? for Planet Cricket
Total Skill-Points = Registration + (Post Count/10) + (Posts per day*30) + (Rep Factor) + (user-level*Post Count/100) + Events + Word-Count + Thread + Rewards + (-Penalty)
Factors Explained:-
Registration ? Each new registering member will start with 100 Skill-Points as a token of thanks for registering.
Post Count ? Simply takes a member?s number of posts and divide by 10 to calculate points, so make more posts and watch the points go up. But to control spamming 10 posts will make up 1 skill-point.
Posts per day ? Takes a member?s post-per-day rate and multiply it by average days in a month (30) to judge the performance in overall month. I?ve used 30 because normally it would take a member about one month of increased posts to increase his/her post rate by 1. Maybe lesser days for new members or 2+ months for members with higher post-count but 1 month comes as a good average figure. So to gain extra 30 skill-points increase your post-rate by 1. This will be a floating value and members will (rightfully) loose some points for being inactive for a while as their posting rate goes down.
Rep Factor ? Reputation points after-all are points earned by hard-work and making good posts and hence should add directly to Skill-Points. Also reputation points increase with vCash earnings hence vCash also comes into play automatically. So to gain points here, get some +ve reps and earn vCash to gain direct Skill-points. This is also a floating value as ?ve reps will decrease your Skill-points but to only a lesser extent.
User-Level ? This is more of an extra bonus earned on posts apart from points earned from Post Count. Simply add a user-level factor into the mix. Multiply the Post Count factor by user-level constant which are ?
Administrator = 5
Global Moderator = 3
Staff-Member = 2
Patch-team = 1.8
Member (1000+ posts) = 1.2
Member (new) = 1
Hence a post made by an admin has higher value and it descends with user-level going upto a new member with less than 1000 posts. This factor was included taking into consideration that most admins do not post much due to ?behind the scenes work? but they still should have high Skill-Points for running the website properly.
Hence an admin will typically make 1 post per 5 posts by a general member and his/her post will be more informative and valuable. Same goes for global mods, mods, patchers, older members etc with lesser values.
Events ? This constitutes points for members running following special events ?
Word Count ? Now some members have high post count thanks to lots of small posts. And some members have low post count but quality, long posts so they automatically deserve high Skill-points. So this factor will count the number of words excluding the spaces, quotation tags etc.
Points = Word Count/10
Hence writing longer posts will give more Skill points rather than spamming with ?Nice?, ?Lol? posts. Each ?10 words? will give 1 Skill-Point.
Thread ? Creating each new thread will give 5 points. As anyone can exploit this factor and go on ?thread-creation? spree, extra points have been included for number of hits the thread will get. 1 Skill-Point awarded per 100 views.
But what about the threads that get closed, the member still got the points exploiting this feature???
There is solution below in ?Penalty? factor.
Rewards ? This is manual i.e. nothing controls it automatically. Here members will receive Skill-Points for special awards like-
Best Post contributor
Best helpful member
Best Patch
Every other award on Planet Cricket
Points awarded are yet to be finalised but this is at the Admins and Mods discretion as they will be giving points manually.
Penalty ? Again this is also manual and in fact a new punishing system for annoying members and spamsters. Mods will simply take away some skill-points from members as a punishment.
Important ?
Here I would like to suggest something that any Spam or Off-Topic posts not to be deleted by the mods but simply throw in a warning and if that not helping, take off the points. But no need to delete someone?s posts unless highly offensive as deleting someone?s post is a direct insult to that member, simply put.
This way it will be easy for mods who often keep on checking and editing every post. It will reduce their work-load as they can simply take away some Skill-points and the member will be on right track.
Also when thread get closed, mod can take off Skill-points from the member if he/she feels is the right to do so as the thread-creator did get 5 points for creating it at the first place.
Something like -
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So that?s pretty much everything included adding up to ?Skill points?. Remember that if you are lacking points in one ?factor?, try to gain points in other ?factors? and hence improve your overall Skill Points as a result. Now I cannot think of any other way which can give a true value of a member to Planet Cricket. Please note that some members may get low points and I am also one of them but that doesn?t take away a member?s hidden contribution to building the community called ?Planetcricket? and all members recognise that. ?Skill Points? is just another interesting statistic that I believe Planetcricket should have as it?s a gaming-based site and mostly gaming websites have the skill-points system. A good example ? www.ps3forums.com
Below is an example table with approximate values given to the factors and the resulting Skill-Points are indeed realistic.

I believe members will have lots of queries, questions and suggestions on it. Fire them away please. I might create a FAQ in my first post.

Events ? This constitutes points for members running following special events ?
VBookie ? Running VBookie is after-all a responsible job and involves handling lots of vCash and hence the member has to be trustworthy. But often VBookie gets created and closed without any bets hence the rewarding points have to be not too many or not too low. So each event and each bet constitutes a Skill-Point.The points gets calculated as follows ?
Points = number of VBookie events + total number of bets on all VBookie events( run by the same member)
Fantasy Cricket ? Running FC is indeed a tiring and boring job as admitted by quite a few members although the results produced are exciting. Hence the reward has to be appropriate. Each FC event and registration will give 2 points. Points as follows-
FC points (for same member) = (2*Number of FC events) + (2*Total registrations so far on all events.)
Points = number of VBookie events + total number of bets on all VBookie events( run by the same member)

50 Skill-Points taken off for continous Spamming.
