It's a warm day in India when the Planet Cricket team arrives at the Gandhi Airport in New Delhi, eager to play after smashing Pakistan 3-0 in a test series in UAE. Its rare to see the team together like this, with all the players being spread over the world in such a dramatic fashion, with each player preferring to spend their wealth in a tax haven like Monaco or the Bahamas. As they arrive in New Delhi on the 25th of February, they have only a few days of rest before a 3 day warm up game against Mumbai at Wankhede Stadium, which is where the second test will be held. As they board the bus that night, their is a discussion over a rift forming between the team, with keepers Andrew Biggs and Richard Hingston at the forefront. After Hingston's shocking display in the UAE, it is expected Andrew Biggs will take the gloves up for the series, but Hingston's performance against Mumbai could show that he is capable of keeping on the turning Indian wickets.

After Planet Cricket win the toss with the correct calling of Heads, it has been left up to the batsmen of Planet Cricket to get the game underway, as Connors and Jennings walk out to bowl, on a scorching Mumbai day, it is clear that the crowd are begging for attention, whilst they are booed to the crease, Jennings prepares himself to face the first ball. Its a safe block down the wicket, met by the booing of the crowd as they cry for action on what appears to be a bowler's wicket.

Jennings is out LBW just a few balls later, 5 runs off 7 balls. A strong partnership between Connors and User 2010 puts Planet Cricket at 1/131 before User 2010 is bowled by Naveed of Mumbai. Norton only faces 5 balls before is partner Connors is caught behind by Tare and bowled Naveed. The score of 74 (69) is all that Connors could achieve before Houghton is bought to the crease. A steady partnership forms between Norton and Houghton before Norton is out for 25. Planet Cricket are 4/197 off 34 overs. Karunanayake takes his second wicket a few balls later as Houghton is out for 46. But importantly this brings to the crease keeper Hingston, who is fighting for his chance in the first test a week later. Syed is currently at 3 of 2 deliveries. At the end of the 46th over, Syed and Hingston are still not out and are batting well together. Syed is out shortly after the break and Khan comes to the crease. One more wicket for Mumbai and they are into the tail. Hingston reaches his 50 before being caught by Tare, his 3rd catch of the innings. Lucas is run out after a miscommunication with his teammate Khan. Dunk is bought to the crease. PlanetCricket are 8/296 off 55 overs. But Dunk is gone for a duck and it brings Adams to the crease who is out immediately. Two ducks to finish Planet Cricket's innings.

Raja and Imran of Mumbai both come out to face the heat late on in the 1st day. Imran is gone after 30 deliveries, he made 25. A steady partnership between Raja and the new batsman Chirimuuta puts Mumbai ahead at 1/149, before Chirimuuta is bowled by Dunk. Raja is nearing his century and is 81 off 69. Harrington is run out quickly by Connors after a failed single turns into a nasty mistake for Mumbai. They are 3/182 off 36.1 overs. Raja reaches his one hundred in beautiful fashion before his innings is bought to a close by Lucas and Caught Dunk. 107 (99) is all he will score today. Naveed is brought to the crease, with the tail of Mumbai edging closer. Naveed is bowled by Dunk and is out for 5 (9). Mumbai are losing control of a strong position. Wicketkeeper-batsman Tare comes to the crease to delay the tails forthcoming. At Stumps day 1, Mumbai are 5/220. After a six when returning to play, Khan finally knocks over Tare and the Mumbai tail is open. Karunanayake gets 22 off 35 balls, can Mumbia's tail wag with Liaqat at the other end? The short term answer is no as Tremain is out bowled Dunk caught Hingston. Hingston has taken two so far in this innings. Singh gets to 18, but more importantly Liaqat is at 80 off 99 balls, but with 9 wickets down, can he get his 100?

Liaqat hits a beautiful pull shot for 4 to bring up his 100, he ends up with 102 (123), as at the other end Ammar is out LBW. Off 75.1 overs, Mumbai have got 354 runs. Planet Cricket are not in a good position.

As openers Jennings and Connors come to the crease, it is clear Planet Cricket need quick runs on the board. A steady partnership forms between the pair before Jennings is caught behind bowled Singh. A strong partnership of 82 is what they needed. Connors and User 2010 put on an even better partnership before User 2010 is bowled for 70 off 57. Planet Cricket are 2/193. Connors reaches his century before being bowled by Tremain. Norton and Houghton are at the crease. Houghton is gone early after pushing a bit too far forward and being stumped by Mumbai keeper Tare. Syed is in. Norton reaches 33 just before 50 overs are completed, but is bowled again. PlanetCricket are in trouble at 5/266, and Hingston getting out for 4 (Bowled again) is not helping their cause. Khan walks out for a bat before the tails enters. The tail is opened when Syed is bowled late in day 2, and they walk out 9 down on day 3, but they are bowled out quickly.

Late on in day 3, the Mumbai batsman are finding starts but are not going on. Imran made 57 but that has been the top score so far, but Mumbai find themselves 8/227, can they hold on for a draw?
The final two wickets are taken within one over, and PlanetCricket find themselves winning by 48 runs, which seems extraordinary considering how much trouble they were in at the start of Day 2.

Adams is given man of the match, collecting 2/43 in the first innings but more importantly 4/47 in the second which put Mumbai on the back foot. 3 tons were scored, 2 by Mumbai players.

The 3 top scores were:
A. Raja (Mumbai) 107
S. Liaqat (Mumbai) 102*
D. Connors (Planet Cricket) 100

The 3 bowlers with the most wickets were:
R. Adams (Planet Cricket) 6
D. Karynanayake (Mumbai) 6
M. Dunk (Planet Cricket) 4

Thats it for part 1 of this story: The Planet Cricket Tour of India. A 100 by D. Connors saved Planet Crickets 2nd innings and great bowling by R. Adams gave them the win. With Hingston making 50 in the first innings but only 4 in the second will he keep his spot for the first test, were they face a tougher test in India? Will the PlanetCricket tail improve so they can actually hit the f****** ball?

UPDATE:

Planet Cricket Wicketkeeper Hingston has suffered a severe stomach bug. He will be flying home on the 10th of March, after the start of the first test v India. As a result, Wicketkeeper Andrew Biggs will be stepping or rather sliding on the gloves and will be wicketkeeping for the first test. It is unclear how Hingston contracted the virus, but he has asked to be flown home and on the behalf of PlanetCricket Cricketing Association, we ask you to respect our decision and keep his best interests at heart. We will discuss the possibility of his return for the T20 Series after the third test at a later time.
