Random Thoughts

I understand the hunting argument having lived and hunted in Tasmania, where there are a lot of guns, but I think now's the time for the US to make a real change. It is just too easy for people to get large amounts of guns and ammo in the US. Things need to be extremley altered. Unless you are a cop you have NO need for a handgun, let alone two.

That interview with the young girl is just pathetic, 'was everyone crying scared wanting their parents to come get them?', wtf do you think, have a heart and a brain..

This is not a gun issue, it's a mental health issue.
3 incidents in a year and you're still defending the gun rights? Even if it was mental health issue, the result would have far less terrible if they were not handed the guns. I was always against the gun rights but needed something to prove my point but it seems like 3 incidents (and none of the incident was terrorist attack but a normal man with a gun) isn't enough to change your mind. You buy a gun for a self defense but there won't be need of it if there aren't others roaming around with loaded guns. How come the other countries never had such issues as often as in America?

Gun culture is an intrinsic part of American culture. That won't change. I just think that it needs to be more heavily regulated.

Anyway, disgusted at humanity after today's incident. Deeply saddened....what kind of sick man attacks children?

Pretty tweaked up, can't even fathom how retarded and gutless these kinda people are. It's too bad they couldn't take him alive though. As much as many sick people deserve a bullet, they should rot in jail for at least some time.

Then you've got all the anti-gun lobbiests crawling out of their hole right after the incident to push their agenda. While I agree too many braindead Americans can get their hands on guns, all the strict laws did here after the Port Arthur massacre was penalise the people that did the right thing.

I've shot competitively for most of my life up until earlier this year and in my small town, club memberships dropped from over 50 to about 10 after the buyback scheme and tighter controls were introduced. It became pointless to even bother traveling around to shoot competitively after that since most clubs suffered the same.

Strict laws aren't going to stop criminals and retards from getting their hands on guns. The only people who will do the right thing by the new laws are the ones doing the right thing now pretty much.

In my opinion the availability is the problem. People who wouldn't be able to get hold of the guns to commit a massacre in most countries can in the US. Ultimately there's something rotten with a country when it's citizens consistently do this. As for Mark's "don't tell us how to run our country" I just think "whatever".
Massacring children is not the price of freedom. No way the US will ever do anything about this though; the gun lobby is too powerful and has twisted these atrocities into recruiting fairs.

And mean that in the 15 years since, the biggest 'massacre' involved 3 people's deaths.

I'd gladly stop your sport shooting to achieve that.

Found this on Facebook

This morning I woke up,
looked at the Connecticut sky.
I had a good feeling
I can't tell you why.

I kissed Mommy goodbye,
and told Daddy I love you.
And before we separated at the sign,
I told sister see you soon.

The bell rung,
we all rushed inside.
It was warm and loving
like a campfire light.

The teacher smiled,
my friends waved hello.
We started class,
but before you know..

The door busted open,
a man with a gun.
I was scared and broken
I looked at the sun.

The same sun I saw
with so much love.
Now brought me worry
but I'd stay tough.

I felt a pain
go through my whole body.
I saw a light
and an awful goodbye.

I saw Mommy's face,
her beautiful, soft lips.
I kissed her this morning,
she was something I'd miss.

I smelled Daddy's cologne,
when he hugged me today.
He left for work,
not knowing what life would take.

Sister was only a few blocks away,
in a classroom, I could see
I'll never get to say
how much she means to me.

My 6th birthday was coming soon,
I was dreaming of ponies
dolls
and shoes.

Then I felt a hand
touch my face.
I was overwhelmed
in an amazing grace.

God said to me,
"don't be worry, child.
you've been here before.
it's just been a while."

I looked on my back,
where I found wings.
I felt a halo
and clouds under my feet.

With me, when I looked,
were my friends by my side.
That man sent us here,
but I"m alright.

Maybe he was sick,
maybe he was crazy.
Maybe he hurt us
because he was hurting, maybe?

I watch the tears
all over the country.
Over the few years
their pain because of me.

I watched my family
break apart.
but they knew
I was in their hearts.

I don't know much,
but I know this;
my mommy should've never
had to bury her own kid.

Although it's tough,
although it's hard
I think God would want us to forgive
th killer in our hearts.

What you dont know,
but what I'll tell you,
is I'm just fine.
in this heaven of mine.

Maybe this will teach you
to never regret a thing.
Be happy with what God gave you,
because you could've been me.

Now, maybe I was young,
maybe I didn't deserve it.
But maybe I taught a lesson,
now please...learn it.

Love with everything,
always smile a lot.
Remember this lesson,
that I taught.

Wipe the tears,
enjoy the years.
Time goes by fast,
you don't know which day is your last.

Pray for my famlily,
for my friend's family, too.
I'm sure they'll be grateful,
and thankful to you.

I'm an angel,
all brand new.
I came up here
this afternoon.

I would be 6 years old,
but God has a plan.
Remember this feeling of distraught,
remember this lesson that I taught.

Call me a gay or whatever, I don't care. I do have emotions especially when it comes to children. Let's think of all those who died in that incident. RIP

Matt's spot on. It's a sacrifice that just has to be made regardless of how inconvenient it is for a specific group of people. There comes a point where you have to put the lives of 18 children before going out for a hunt or shoot every 2nd weekend (not directed at anyone specifically, just in general), because the simple fact is that there are a lot of sickos out there and harsh regulations may be unfair on some but it is for the greater good and will go a long way to preventing incidents like this one.

I am saddened for the parents and families of the deceased. Arms culture can never be a good thing. Pakistan used to a peaceful place before 1978. Then General Zia came and cold war meant that all kind of weapons became available through out my country. Previously only in NWFP and Tribal area, guns were part of the culture. During and after cold war this klashinkov culture became a rampant epidemic that to this day haunts our country. I hope Americans who support Guns for everyone ideology, can realized this soon enough. Also video game makers and their controllers must also look into their contribution towards spreading of this menace of Gun trotting wannabe soldiers killing the innocent for no apparent reason.

Wow you guys are all crazy. It's like you want to government to control what you do.

Anyways, luckily for me this incident won't change anything, the 2nd amendment is more important than 20 random people, sounds harsh but it's the truth.

=

The Patriot Act gives the US government more control over its citizens that pretty much every country outside of China and North Korea anyway.
Like I said it's America's problem. Clearly they don't see the occasional school shooting as a problem.

I don't doubt that mark, the problem is though, in a country in which gun crime is so common, people that want to keep guns for totally legit reasons like you do kinda have to keep touting the 2nd amendment, right to bear arms, thing because in all other logical arguements they haven't got much of a leg to stand on.

as far as I understood though mark you were into hunting, not arming yourself in the case of a potential invasion and protecting the freedom of the USA, which is what the 2nd amendment is for yeah?

Wow you guys are all crazy. It's like you want to government to control what you do.

Do you wonder around with tin foil on your head in case the government try to control you with radio waves? Reckon all that weed has gone and made you a bit paranoid.

Further to what Bo and Colin said, you judge Muslim cultures for running their countries by the Qur'an for being out dated on how to base how to run a country. The American Constitution was drafted over 200 years ago, and the 2nd ammendment was relevant then. If America is such a developed and enlightened society, why do its citizens need to own an instrument whose sole aim is to kill?

EDIT - I'll also point out that the fact you find the deaths of 5 year old children irrelevant and acceptable so you can go fire your gun sickening, and frankly no better then some Taliban extremist who finds it perfectly fine to kill a woman who has been raped due to his interpretation on the Qur'an. Maybe you are a lot similar to those barbaric scum who you hate so much, then you actually realise.
