So here I'm gonna write about some of the players that I have seen play in the last few years but have seemed to completely fade away from International Cricket and have not been seen in a while. - could be due to injuries, poor form or any other reason- But a write-up about how I've seen them go from regular to suddenly disappear from the international game.

I've been following cricket only for a short time, so this will be based on the last 3-5 years- Based on my perspective and players that I have observed to have lost their regular place in the side.

I will devote one post for every country and probably write when I feel like. I'd usually put it in a blog but I feel this is a great place to share my thoughts and cricket opinions (and for people to actually read).

1. Pakistan :pak:

Pakistan is a team that gives me a lot of such players to talk about tbh, but I will mention a few of them- They gave me the idea to begin with

Haider Ali

I remember seeing Haider come into the team in the COVID time in 2020, when I heard he had been part of that year's U19 Squad. Pakistan were having critical middle-order issues back then (gladly Ifti and Saud have fixed that issue now) with Malik and Hafeez getting old and I thought he was gonna be the future No. 4- especially after his innings in the England T20 Series in 2020 which I remember most. But after that he was bang average for too long and I guess thus got booted. Recently did play in the Pak A team in the Asian Games tho

Usman Khan Shinwari

Remember seeing him all around Pakistan's white ball bowling setup in 2018. He actually had some crazy stats- 34 wickets in 17 ODIs at 18.62- seemed like a proper wicket taker. Even got a BBL contract. Then he gets dropped and ignored just before the WC and doesn't make the squad- Mohammad Hasnain I believe was picked over him with barely any ODI experience. And then I never see him again.

Khalid Latif

Only recently heard of him again when the news came that he was arrested- Saw him at the 2016 WT20 which was like the first tournament I watched a bit of, I believe he played just one game at No. 3, but I don't think he ever played much again. And surely he can't play anymore.

Mohammad Hasnain

Another guy demoted to Pakistan A level now- He took a hat trick vs SL in 2019 after getting picked in WC Squad, and to be frank back in 2020 I thought he was on par with Haris Rauf to assist Shaheen as the 2nd pacer (Wahab was around too i think). Obviously Rauf rocketed past him but I still thought he'd be a good backup before the likes of Mohammad Wasim Jr slowly pipped him and even Shahnawaz Dahani, and now Zaman Khan and Ihsanullah- so he's barely around the team.

I will definitely add more later by editing them in, if I do remember more players. And I'm welcome to suggestions

If he wasn't injured he would probably have replaced Naseem Shah in the WC squad

Shinwari is the weird one, anyone knows why he faded away?

From an Indian perspective, Vijay Shankar is one that I’d like to put up. Hasn’t played a game for India since the 2019 WC and for a brief period he wasn’t even good enough to be an IPL starter. Has undergone a bit of a revival since his Gujarat Titans move but I doubt he’ll get back to being an international starter in the future.

Another great shout, he’s even faded away in the domestic cricket scene if I’m right.

His Karnataka mate in Mayank has faded away internationally and in the IPL but still seems to be an important player domestically. Same goes for Vihari.

Wonder if Shaw will soon be spoken of in these terms.

Bhuvaneswar Kumar, T natarajan comes to mind as INDian.
Not recent but very talented prospect from PAK, Asim Kamal

I think Shaw is already there.

For a player who was touted to be the 'next Sachin' he has been bottling it for so long.

The only good patch he has was initial few tests where he got a century on debut.

2- India :ind:

I guess the interest for India is pretty high so here are my picks for them..

T. Natarajan
1699028885199.png

He's the perfect answer to the question. Came in 2020 as yorker specialist for SRH, immediately debuted for India in all the 3 formats and became so hyped after that- I remember how much the craze was for India for finding a left-arm yorker specialist, naming him as 2nd most important pacer to Bumrah and stuff like that. But his performance in IPL 2021's first phase was not as good, and he got injured as well in the second phase- and BOOM, he is nowhere to be seen. IPL 2022- makes a comeback, 18 wickets , almost 2 wickets an innings, BOOM, injured. Does not get selected for the Tours after the IPL despite his performance, and now that remains his last "stellar" performance in domestic T20s, keeping him far away, as far as he could be, from the ICT atm.

Mayank Agarwal
1699029267939.png

This is tests only concerned- Mayank used to be 2nd opener along with Rohit in tests and remained strongly the 1st choice for it until Gill performed in the BGT 2020. His home record still gave him some edge but Gill started ahead of him in the England Home Series 2021. Well, he was still 1st choice backup. But soon, KL Rahul started performing and took his opportunities to leapfrog him and become the more preferred Test Opener. And then with Yashasvi Jaiswal now coming up the order, Mayank is done and dusted in tests- from where he was it's a pretty big drop.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar
1699029554209.png

The most recent one of them all- what a bowler he was for India in white ball-cricket, a proper swing bowler who bowled in the powerplay- but if only he wasn't made of glass... He lost his place in the ODI team much earlier which I remember, as Prasidh, Shardul and the likes surged ahead and it seemed he was out of 2023 WC plans. T20Is were still on.. he played the 2022 T20 World Cup- and the NZ series right after that, but that was his last international game. He did do well in IPL 2023, but with frequent injuries and age, he's probably not gonna play for India again. And so many fans will surely be upset

Shreyas Gopal (Domestic)

1699029925902-png.286060

I know Gopal has not played internationals so we're going off the rails a bit, but I still wanted to include because he's such a critical case of this question. 2018, he was coming up as one of RR's lead spinners , 2019, one of the highest wicket takers in the IPL and a handy lower order bat, and he was probably next in line for India's backup LOI spinner. But Rahul Chahar gets picked- Now his IPL 2020 performance is a major dip, he gets dropped after 3 games in IPL 2021, gets pushed far below in the spinners hierarchy and now he goes unsold in every IPL Auction ! The guy who threatened Kohli and RCB too with a hat-trick back in 2019- He dropped down so hard that so many domestic spinners are now ahead of him. SRH buying him revived his career a bit in 2022 but he's barely took off. A pretty interesting case
