5 to win, so one big hit over the ropes will do it for Middlesex! All Somerset got to do is not to concede a boundary.
Code:
49.6 Wheal to Ali, FOUR, That was a bad delivery by Brad Wheal, deserving this punishment

GAZI-0538.jpg

TIE!! What a thriller! Moeen Ali guides that one over covers but ball lands way behind ropes. Luckily he gets a boundary though. 100 overs of game and yet two sides can not be separated. A super over will be followed.

Middlesex will bat first

It's Liam Plunkett vs Ben Stokes & Moee Ali

Code:
0.1 Plunkett to Stokes, FOUR, That's an astonishing stroke from Ben Stokes. Hits it hard over cover, once bounce for four.

0/4 (0.1)

0.2 Plunkett to Stokes, WICKET, BOWLED!! Brilliant comeback from Plunkett. Bowling over the wicket, slow off-cutter, takes off the bails.

1/4 (0.2)

*** New man at the crease is Tom Banton. ***

0.3 Plunkett to Banton, SIX, BOOM! First ball and that has gone for a SIX. That's why he should have came earlier and take the strike first ball; has batted brilliantly this lad today.

1/10 (0.3)

0.4 Plunkett to Banton, DOT, Again, brilliant from Plunkett, perfect yorker but just misses the stumps. Banton doesn't have a clue where the ball is. Lucky for Somerset, de Kock was sharp behind the stumps that he managed to keep eyes on the ball.

1/10 (0.4)

0.5 Plunkett to Banton, WICKET, Banton mistimes the pull shot, top edge, and de Kock doesn't miss chances like these, does he?

2/10 (0.5)

Liam+Plunkett+West+Indies+v+England+2nd+ODI+t2ln1lhJSSJl.jpg

That's a mess! Middlesex have not even managed to face full super over. They end up setting the target of 11.
It will be Lockie Ferguson vs Glenn Maxwell & Quinton de Kock.

Code:
0.1 Ferguson to Maxwell, TWO, Maxwell flicks it towards Long On, not much power in it, so fielder was able to save a boundary.

0/2 (0.1) ; 9 REQUIRED OFF 5

0.2 Ferguson to Maxwell, WIDE, Attempt for a wide yorker, but slightly outside, sufficient enough to be called a wide.

0/3 (0.1) ; 8 REQUIRED OFF 5

0.2 Ferguson to Maxwell, DOT, Looks like Ferguson's plan is simple; bowl wide yorkers. This time he gets one perfect.

0/3 (0.2) ; 8 REQUIRED OFF 4

0.3 Ferguson to Maxwell, WICKET, Another wide yorker. This time Maxwell manages to get contact between bat and the ball, only to edge pass it in Tom Banton's gloves. More important than wicket, it was a dot ball.

1/3 (0.3) ; 8 REQUIRED OFF 4

*** New man at the crease is Kevin O'Brien. ***

0.4 Ferguson to O'Brien, DOT, Well bounced. Kevin O'Brien did not anticipate this, just makes a clumsy effort to save his head. Appeals for a height wide, but it's only been signaled as a short ball warning.

1/3 (0.4) ; 8 REQUIRED OFF 2

0.5 Ferguson to O'Brien, FOUR, Luck! Outside edge, through the slips, goes all the way to boundary. Ferguson had just got third man inside the circle before this delivery.

1/7 (0.5) ; 4 REQUIRED OFF 1

Code:
0.6 Ferguson to O'Brien, Slow ball, hits it high over deep mid wicket looking for a six, has he got enough power? NO! Fielder is underneath it, should be easy... DROPPED! Batsmen have took the first run faster, now they've almost completed the second, meanwhile fielder picks up the ball and throws down to bowler's end... THAT'S OUT!! Ferguson completes the run-out. Middlesex have done it! They're into final.

Code:
2/9 (0.6) ; MIDDLESEX WON BY 1 RUN
6e3b33b0-114c-11eb-a7ae-dbad450b06aa.png

That's the end of the roller coaster ride for Middlesex, on a winninig note. Unfortunately for Somerset, their journey ends here. They certainly did produce quality cricket throughout the season.

Middlesex manager made a brave decision to include Tom Bantons in playing eleven as he had a woeful season until this match. Apparently, the decision has paid him off as Banton delivered a man of the match performance.

Middlesex tie with Somerset
Middlesex win on superover

Man of the match: Tom Banton

@Na Maloom Afraad , @ABDULLAH

Indeed a thriller. Congratulations NMA and good luck for the finale. Thank you Ohm for this magnificent and unique cricket league contest.

No way man! No, no way! What an incredible finish to indeed a thrilling game! Moeen Ali finally did something of note, and it couldn't have come at a better time. Tom Banton firing the way he did in this game is awesome for us, especially considering how fragile our top-three have been. The very risky decision to bring him in worked out spectacularly. Lockie Ferguson, Mark Wood and Ben Stokes were a bit on the expensive side but that is to be expected on a batsman's pitch. The ball just flies off the blade in situations like these. I'm really pleased that despite going for as many runs as he did, Lockie Ferguson was able to hold his nerves in the Super Over and defend the 10 runs we scored. A 1-run victory in the Super Over is not something to be taken lightly. Hopefully, it means that we are able to hold our nerves in tough situations when it matters the most. I can not tell you how elated I am with this win. After seeing that we needed 11 runs in the last over, I never thought we'd actually score it, especially considering it was Mo at the crease and not Stokes. But thankfully, we were able to pull through and then edge past them in the Super Over.

Thanks for the spectacular game @ABDULLAH (and obviously @Ohm :D), now we march onto the final! :cheers

Good smart bowling from Wood to trap Ben Howell who must have had ideas to explore boundaries and go big in death overs having already understood enough of the pitch, perhaps not his day. Crucial moment in this game.

That's the end of Surrey innings. Not much to talk about their batting as bowlers from other side took righteous advantage of conditions. Ball wasn't coming on to bat that nicely, and Middlesex's bowlers done quite a good job not to make a mess of it as they restricted Surrey's powerhouse from posting a solid score on the board which was highly spoke of, before the game.
They simply created opportunities and grabbed those. Especially, Stuart Broad was brilliant with the new ball and ended up registering 4 wickets to his name for just 34 runs. Moeen Ali was also fabulous as he got couple of wickets himself and one of them was Azam's. It was one of those rare times when he bowled his full quota of overs.
From Surrey, only Azam and Howell looked in control and their top order barring Azam really had no descent clues. Although Buttler was going for a fine innings as well, but he was victim of Liam Dawson's brilliant throw.
Finally, Mark Wood seized the opportunities towards end to clean off the tail. All in all, this is still a respectable total, given how pitch has behaved so far. In second innings, it's only going to get slower. Therefore, Middlesex's plan should be simple, to attack from the beginning while ball is hard and is supposed to be hitting middle of the bat often.

MIDDLESEX REQUIRE 223 RUNS TO WIN

@CerealKiller , @Na Maloom Afraad

Can’t believe we performed consistently for so long, only to make a subpar total in the final. I have faith in my bowlers, but we needed better from Hales, Malan, Ackerman, Pope and Buttler. Can’t always rely on Babar. Broad was phenomenal with the new ball, and after Babar got out, we couldn’t put together any lasting partnership.

Broaaaadddd!!! You absolute madman! <3

We have to chase this down, because if we can't chase 223 with the likes of Smith, Labuschagne, Banton, Stokes and Moeen in our side then we simply do not deserve to win. Hoping for the best given the circumstances, but I won't be surprised if our batting just bitches out like it has in the past :p

Just when a partnership was shaping up, Parkinson strikes, again. That's his second. Tom Banton was carrying his form from previous innings and was even batting sensibly until Parkinson produced beauty of a googly.

Before start of the over the requirement was 38 off 3 overs, a doable stuff with someone like Dawson at the crease. Dawson even realized this and knew it was time to open the arms and seek for boundaries; he got one off the first ball, but missed completely on successive delivery. Surrey's men don't mind chances like these. That's probably game over now.

Surrey bowlers done it smooth and clean towards the end as they could not have been discomforted by opponent's tail, which is a rather likely scenario in nervous outings like this. Anyways, Surrey are champions, well deserving ones. They had a flying start to the season as they ran first five games without receiving a defeat. Even after that, they managed to maintain social distancing at the top throughout this very long season. In play-offs also, they produced their best. Even when first half of the game didn't look so convincing today given the quality of batting they're known for, they bounced back outstandingly well with the ball and as a group of fielders. That's what wins you trophies, the team spirit.

Middlesex have also been a precious part of this tournament. By mid way stage they were hanging around mid table region, but later they turned the tides. They were part of some brilliant games either on winning side or losing which really doesn't matter as long as they displayed substantial cricket, just like today. Congratulations to them, runner-up in a competition of this size is in itself a remarkable feat.
