Sahara withdraws India sponsorship

A corporation in India is complaining about transparency. Good joke.

They seem to think it's a big deal. Is it a big deal?

Time will tell. As far as IPL is concerned they will get someone. For Team india they may not command the same price.

Sahara's response seem to have been written by some intern :lol:lol

Dunno ,how the auction is still underway. It will be a bit unfair on the new owners of Pune IPL as they won't be able to field a squad they would have wanted to select.

Regd Team India sponsorship, Sahara had been mulling over that decision for a few years now. Seems there is more to the entire drama than meets the eye.

They seem to think it's a big deal. Is it a big deal?

sahara India pays BCCI Rs 3.4 Crore for Each International match probably 4-6 times more than what Australia or England main sponsors pays to respective board for each international match.

Sahara is huge supporter of Sports in India, and not just only in cricket, they sponsor Hockey also. So to withdraw from India Cricket team sponorship is basically due to rude behaviour of BCCI and IPL governing council.

BCCI president has its own IPL team and if his team would have lost Dhoni due to illness then they definitely would have made some changes in IPL rule to increase their purse for auction.

Expecting Reliance to become main sponsors of India Cricket Team soon.

Its not Reliance. There is a probability that Nestle or Airtel may be the next big sponsor of the cricket team. They were in the fray during 2001 when Sahara won the contract.

I think it's justified. BCCI don't seem like easy people to work with, and now that India have made themselves the laughing stock of the Test playing world, Sahara has no reason to continue to stay on.

Hopefully falling viewership numbers and losing sponsors will be the kick in the butt the BCCI needs.

Its not just the team sponsorship and IPL ownership of Pune that has gone wayward for the BCCI, they have a lot to take care of this year.
To start - KTK is thinking of filing a suit in a court in which they seek to get a stay on the tournament itself.Secondly, the BCCI do not have a broadcast partner any more. Problems a plenty for the richest cricket board in the world.

Well the deal is back on! It is sponsoring Pune as well as India again.

But.........

Pune allowed to field in 5 overseas players :facepalm
They are now allowed to buy foreign players in-spite the auction/transfer window over

Fielding 5 OS players and getting a play off match to host are the lamest part of the meeting! Although they are related with other teams consent, but seriously, what the hell is going on?

If there is no Yuvi, why would they really need 5 OS players, when they have replacements? The problem with Mumbai Indians in CLT20 was they couldn't make a line up, if they had an injury, for which they were allowed to field 5 OS players, but just because they don't have Yuvi, they should not be allowed to field 5 OS players. I strongly believe no other team will be in agreement with this decision.

And why play off match? Wasn't it so clear that the runner up of the previous edition will be given chance to host the play offs and the winner would be given chance to host the opening, qualifier and final games?

I agree, when Modi was in IPL, he was totally in relationship with DY Patil Stadium and he did move all the home matches from Hyderabad to DYPSA, since MI had few issues with DYPSA Management. He did conduct both the IPL finals which were held in India over there. But since there was a rule formed last year, after the exit of Modi, I feel they should stick on to those rules, especially when it comes to hosting play offs.

The actual rule what was to be followed is the home ground of the team participating in that match, which has better position than the other in the league stage. Due to security reasons, they have settled for the former seasons' contenders. But happening of this will be one tweaking thing IPL will ever have.

Let them make any sorts of trades or any sorts of purchase by taking additional time, there is no harm since they have got all unwanted players from other teams to buy from. But the two above mentioned are the lamest ever!

Stupid stunt. BCCI should have let them go and buy ambulances. That would have been a good PR move for BCCI.
