In 50 (mostly Catholic and Muslim) countries, this is the case. In the other 100+, the conditions are far less strict.

If it is legal to find out the sex of the foetus, and legal to then terminate the pregnancy, any law against gender-based foeticide is worthless - in fact it's a cynical sham.

Are you sure its leagal in that many Catholic and Muslim countries? I know in some Muslim countries girls are treated as if they are sin of their parents but not sure if as much as 50 Catholic/Muslim countries has legalized the process of finding the sex of unborn child.

Didn't like today's episode one bit.... Quite boring to say the least!:facepalm The topic of child sexual abuse could have been presented in a much better way. For starters, Aamir Khan should stop his fake tears.... In the first episode, I thought his emotions were more natural, but today even before that first girl started talking, his eyes were watery (looks like the glycerine job done by him to his eyes were mistimed:D). And the constant panning of the camera to the women in the audience who have to cry on the instructions of the director/cameraman is so annoying.....

This program looks to go the path of the "saas bahu serials" but in a more social context. I appreciate the concern of Aamir to raise these complex and dark social issues, but he should stop showing fake emotions.

I've not watched today's episode but to be honest, in the first episode he looked as if he was overacting with at times face as a dead man with no emotions and all to show as if he is in too much grief was indigestible. I mean, who are really sad, it shows. You can read such faces. Also, after meeting with Rajasthan CM, he told that he is an entertainer and he work is to entertain people and socialism and all that raises questions that if thats the case why at all he chose to host the show? Just because he is getting 39 crores of the 13 approved episodes? Or are the emotions he is showing and the commitments and topics he is coming forward with are truly done by him to stay with it or just for the TRP of the show as most Indians well for anything emotional.

This is taking it too far.... I love the concept of this show and no matter how much money Aamir Khan gets, the very fact that this show brings to light many of the complex and dark issues that faces India right now is enough. Even if he is doing it for TRP's (by the way people from Star told that TRP's are not as important as the reaction from the people concerned) or if he is doing it for publicity (I dont care because as long as he brings out social issues and makes people tackle them, he can earn his bit of publicity and money).

But today's episode felt fake to me, not for the content but the way the presentation was done. Especially the part where Aamir had glycerine in his eyes way before the first girl started narrating her experiences was the most irritating part. And the fact that they made that guy say he was a Sridevi fan (they knew it before the shoot) and then they brought Sridevi as a special guest showed that this is yet another scripted reality TV show.

Fenil surely you can see that I was attempting to answer two very different questions.

1. 50-odd mostly Catholic and Muslim countries definitely don't allow foeticide except to save the mother's life. Some of them may have stricter rules than that - I don't know.

2. I didn't give a number for countries where it was legal to find the sex of the unborn child. It certainly is in Australia, and I would be confident that would hold for Britain and the US. I frankly never knew that any country made a moral/legal fuss about it (although it does make sense particularly in those countries where babies are 'valued' differently based on gender). But all I said was, if a country allows one to (legally) find out the sex of the foetus, and (legally) also elect to terminate the pregnancy, then that country effectively has no law against foeticide on the basis of gender. Passing a law to supposedly prevent gender-based foeticide in such circumstances (and I dare say many developed countries have) is a cynical exercise in hypocrisy of the basest kind.

Looking at the impact of the show, I'd like to watch an episode on child labour and illiteracy. May be on poverty too but that will be much tougher job to do a programme on but if its done, it might do all the good for the nation. I mean how in the world can you consider a person who earns just over half a dollar, as over poverty line?

Today's episode was good. I saw the Tamil version. This is the first episode I see in the show. Thanks to Star network to dub the show in different languages.
Very good concept and it is worth watching.
I recommend everyone to view this show. KUDOS to Aamir Khan for bringing out this. :thumbs

Are you freaking out of your mind? Do you even know that Aamir Khan has tweaking postponed his most awaited and hyped movie and wasted those 45 crores of promotions on movie Talash? His team has done and spend so much money that those 39 crores cannot even match.

This is why this show is important to make people like you who thinks those emotions are fake, he is overacting and all understand that there is problem and instead of noticing his overacting notice the problem and try post something related to that.

I am seriously shocked more to see this post from you Fenil. :facepalm

KUDOS to Aamir Khan for this effort and there will be atleast 10% change of mind on each issues he has discussed so far.

----------

and seriously if you have issues stop being part of something which is good and will have positive outcome. Stop with that negativity and INDIA will actually progress just not on paper but ACTUALLY :rolleyes

Well said! I too have noticed the at times "exaggerated emotions" in the episodes, but that's a pretty tiny sidetrack. The episodes tackle the problem in a pretty hard way and lays it bare in front of us, the audience. The last two episodes, the team brought in people who might be acting as a fuel to the problem and asked them pretty uneasy questions (e.g. today the Khap panchayat community was brought in and asked about why they punish lovers when the Indian constitution allows love marriages for people above the age of 18)?

Even if 1% of the people concerned change or get inspired or help in solving the problem in hand, the show has won. And its already happened with the previous episodes.
