Shivnarine Chanderpaul resigns from captincy.

He was never a captain, most commentators around the world agree with that fact.
Good move by him, WI need someone that can get the point through which Chanerpaul wasn't good at.

I would say that Chris Gayle be given the captaincy. Chris Gayle has an aggressive intent and would be a better captain. Its been proved that captains with attacking instinct have fared better in cricket, esp. ODI's (Saurav Ganguly, Graeme Smith, etc).

Let Sarwan be to his batting. Let him not take the burden of captaincy now! Let Gayle have it!

Not a surprising decision, i'm sure we were all waiting for it. You need some young minds out there, who can take the role of a captain.

you seem to notice that when batman are also captain their form starts to go down with the bat. eg vaughan, Chanderpaul and Nasser Hussain

But for some players it goes the other way, Ponting as a case in point.

Nobody can truly blame Shiv, the team is not up to par. They have plenty of new, young talent that just needs a few more years to develop.

Isn't Denesh Ramdin too young to be considered for captaincy ?
Although he did captain them in one match during the 2004 U-19 World Cup,i still think he's young.

Don't forget that Greame Smith was both young and inexperienced when he was given SA captaincy, and he's done a good job. Sometimes you want someone young to come up with their own ideas and who are not 'burdened' so to speak with the dissapointments of the past.

Very true, and it was ideal in selecting Smith for the position as South African cricket had just experienced serious corruption within the team environment and that wouldn't be easy to overcome by the players concerned and the governing body, so a fresh and unburdened persepctive on things was definitely beneficial. The WI could appoint an emerging player as that allows a different culture into the side, a leader who has not been terribly affected by the constant disappointments of recent years and one that can bring in a different angle. But, on the other hand, it's a huge task for an inexperienced player to have an impact upon his teammates and control the situation, but at least it'd be a positive move heading in a different direction, anywhere but the current.
