Very true, and it was ideal in selecting Smith for the position as South African cricket had just experienced serious corruption within the team environment and that wouldn't be easy to overcome by the players concerned and the governing body, so a fresh and unburdened persepctive on things was definitely beneficial. The WI could appoint an emerging player as that allows a different culture into the side, a leader who has not been terribly affected by the constant disappointments of recent years and one that can bring in a different angle. But, on the other hand, it's a huge task for an inexperienced player to have an impact upon his teammates and control the situation, but at least it'd be a positive move heading in a different direction, anywhere but the current.
