Luckily it worked out for me. Didn't know what to do. Especially since the computer didn't want to start up. And it happened about 21 hours ago, so I've been quite busy with this.

regarding the talisman problem:

i tried it too, even integrated into my shell. There wasnt any problem infact i found it faster a bit.

i did have a similar problem on my other pc before...it would get stuck on 'verifying pool data' and the computer guy suggested i get a new hard drive

Like I said I've already worked it out. Not sure if you have thrown that harddrive away, but the link I posted may help you. I think for my computer the boot records were damaged, so I couldn't start it. A good thing I've found the solution for it.
