anyone knows how i can find my sound driver name in device manager?
please explain to step by step as u know i am computer stupid.
sorry for any inconvience
thanks

I had a similar problem with my PC.

I got the countdown virus which displayed a pop up saying your computer will shut down in so many seconds and so I had to format my computer, but the problem was my computer didnt come with a recovery disk so I had to download one from the internet on another computer and use that, but it didnt come with any drives for my sound card or graphics card etc, so once I got windows back up and internet running, I went to my computer makers website (Pakard Bell) and on there found my computer and there it had all of the drivers for the sound card and graphics card and all the drivers which i needed to get it back to how it was beforehand. So I would suggest you try your manufacturers website and see if there is anything on there about drivers for your sound card.

Hope that is of some use to you mate!

i tried man but the sound driver they got there is for xp home edition not pro.
thanks anyway man

You could still try that and see if it works.

When I formatted mine again, it was to XP Pro from XP Home and the sound card driver still worked.

The driver should be the same for both XP Pro or Home, what puzzles me is why you would want to downgrade from SP2???????

SP2 is garbage u know? it doesn't let you view some pages and slows down download speed.
NEways thanks guys for ur time that u took and tried to help me.
i downloaded the sound driver from my pc's site but it was saying not compitiable with the version of windows u r using. so now i am good thanks once again.

Few suggestions here-
If any of you had to reformat and re-install your windows again and don't have the drivers than www.guru3d.com has all the old and latest versions of drivers(all windows versions) of every hardware released so far.
Now how to tell the chip name and manufacturer of you sound card, graphic card, modem, network card, any hardware etc. in your PC because the Device manager won't display it unless the drivers are installed at the first place.(/contradiction)
Solution- Use "Everest Home Edition" freely available.(do a google for download link)
It will list all the hardware names, models and chip manufacturers in your PC, then simply search for that model and chip on guru3d and dowload the appropriate drivers with respective windows versions.
I have fixed loads of old PC's with old hardware missing driver disks or needing fresh windows-install this way!!!

I had that a while ago, very annoying. I was downloading mods for CM 04/05 on the dugout when it happened.

Its a worm "msworm" if I am correct. And its still floating on internet and all the windows 2000 and Win XP are still succeptible if not patched with the couple of updates available on Microsoft website. The Sp2 is recommended to fix the problem on the whole and re-install of windows are not needed.
