Well after discussing this topic with my class mates today i thought it was quite an interesting one :).

So what do you think about teachers? I think a best teacher is the one who also has a bit of sense of humour in his teaching. This makes the lesson a bit more fun and you actually like it.

Our math teacher is the deputy principal and he is damn harsh and strict. In his lessons we can't even breathe loudly (oh yes!). I don't know why but he likes picking on everyone and especially on our african fellows. If a student gets a bad mark he is really pissed but if one gets maximum he doesn't even congratulate him/her!

Me and my fellows were thinking maybe some teachers childhood was bad that's why they are really strict and harsh. Anyways almost everyone hates him and i bet he knows that :D. IMO math teachers are extremely boring people and math is boring as well, a very dry subject.

What are your experiences with teachers? I want to hear them, especially related to Maths. :)

My maths and P.E teachers are the best because they give me something to concentrate on...

At our college, and most i believe we call teachers - tutors. :D

Anyways, i have one tutor called Tom, who kind of appeals to my way of teaching, he's very simple nothing over-complicated, he does a lot of visual work such as work sheets, internet and explains things so a alien would understand, he is also very sarcastic and its quite funny, theres only 2 guys in my class myself and my best mate Kev and theres 16 girls (good huh :p) anyways they dont see what me n Kev find so funny

fit teachers are the best, or the ones who just don't do anything and let you get away with anything, probably the one that makes you learn is actually the best though!

at my school we got a pe teacher who used to be a cop in london he's a physco. a good teacher is one who keeps everyone in line but is willing to have a laugh. My maths teachers a bit like that and maybe my science. also a teacher who treats you like an adult and doesnt patronise you like some teachers do.

The teachers we have are all on our level so we can laugh and joke with them.I constantly playfully diss my teachers. We have a really great relationship between the students and teachers at our school!

I'll second that!
Basically any teacher that 'lets you get away with anything' is a bad teacher and shouldn't be doing the job. A good teacher is one who manages to impart their enthusiasm for their subject so that you can share in it.
I agree that the banter and rapport can be an important aspect (and obviously one you find much more at Secondary than Primary) but ultimately I don't think teachers should get too close to a class.
Personally I love teaching but I'm sure that if I had to teach some of you I wouldn't! ;)

I agree with most of what you've typed, so I have every confidence you'll be a great teacher Colin :)

I find good teachers can be a bit like a fine wine, initially you might not like it, but over time you come to appreciate it.

When you first get them you might not like them, but when you grow up and mature you look back and realise that they did actually make a difference. A bad teacher is often one who gives off the impression that they just don't care, afterall if they don't it's hardly going to inspire the children is it, as well as the one's who just let the class get away with anything.

I've never found any teachers annoying........until I found out Colin teaches :p

No, but in all seriousness when I come to think of it I never did find them annoying, the only ones that annoy me are the ones that keep saying 'shh' 'shh' even when your not saying anything, it's really frustrating!

Even till now at 6th form I have not come across anyone annoying, they all seem kind and I can get along with them perfectly. We have a friendship sort of relationship with eachother out of lessons and stuff.

Even in secondary school my head of year pwned :p he was a great laugh but we passed with flying colours (in English).

i think that it is bad to stereotype their personality based on their subject my history teacher is awesome

Back when I did PE the teachers were usually the most easily to communicate with and spend some time with, mainly because they were all relatively young (20-30's) and they know what's going on in an everyday teenage world. I find there are decent teachers in every department, not only in one mind you I find English teachers rather tedious and more difficult to communicate with.

i remember an english teacher in high school we used to pay out cause he was on his l plates

100% right!

Let me put this as subtly as possible: I generally dislike Powerpoint-driven classes.

Why subtly? Google has been indexing PC pretty thoroughly.
