After seeing the 1st test match between SA and IND,it's seems to us that test cricket isn't going to death. It's still alive. It's better than newest edition t20.
Long live Test crikcet, you are a leader of cricket world :yes

When did anybody ever say that Test cricket is about to die. Its only the T20 fanboys who keep bringing up that argument.

Never even thought that we would want to compare with T20. Agree that T20 has enhanced power hitting capabilities of batsmen, but it was never a strategy game for me. I am never a fanboy of T20 anytime, will be never anytime in future too.

T20 is entertainment, ODI is commercial, TEST cricket is the pure, original form of cricket.

Its something very similar to the Royal Enfield bikes. Bullet is the pure, old form of RE bike which still has its own charm like test cricket, ODI is the RE Classic which generates the best sales for the RE company and it is good in its own way too and T20 is the Thunderbird bike which just kids love and suits the modern people. I love Bullet, i own one and i love test cricket. :thumbs

A good test match will always be more fun than a good T20 game or a good ODI game. But the no. of good test matches are going down these days, due to the onset of T20's which has flattened out pitches, made run scoring closer to video game style batting, reduced bowlers to nothing more than bowling machines, etc. And the crowds want games to end quicker and are not as willing to spend 5 full days for a game.

Test cricket is better, but it won't be the most preferred form of the game for the mainsteam cricket audience. I think there will be a day when only the elitist crowd watch test cricket. Even the recent Ind-SA test had poor crowd attendance in the ground. These days, people prefer to just keep tab of the scores of a test match through Cricinfo and just watch the most important parts.

Reducing spectators - Adding to T20 crowd having less patience to watch the game, I would also blame the technology enhancements.

During mid 90s, they just telecasted a match but now they show us a new level of the same match with so many analytical elements that even a simple catch is shown attractively in different styles of replays( hotspot, power cam etc etc). Not only the technology impacted the telecast, but it also impacted strongly the way it reaches people. Smart phones & tablet - almost everyone has it, all we need to do is just 2 clicks to open an app and get the latest update.

Not that these are wrong but it influences the most in completely a different direction! Even I am typing this with a smart phone from a party place. ;)
