Could it be a new rule that people don't use text talk, as it's very annoying and saves a couple of letters, and plus not everyone who is on here's first language is English.

Just a thought.

It would be alot easier to understand some people if they wrote full sentences as you have suggested. By "not everyone's first language being English", do you mean that we should allow posts in other languages?

I thought it was already a rule not to use it

Yeah, we obviously like all posts to be in comprehensible English but are of course prepared to make allowances for those who may not have English as their first language. Text talk however is very hard to understand sometimes and is therefore discouraged. We won't delete posts or anything but you'll usually get a reminder and possibly some -ve rep !

I would like to think that I understand that foreign language known as txt language being young-ish, but it really does become out of hand. It's much easier to read and understand, problems are solved quicker. I'm all for it! :cheer

No but it would make it easier for people who's first language is not English if we made an effort to make it nice and tidy.

That was slang rather that text language. But it would have probably been better if that post had not been made at all!!

I just think it looks very tacky and can show the age of the user quite easily.

Yeah. I'm 12 and I've never used 'txt' language!

Why say: "ur flies r undun" when you can say: "Your flies are undone"?

What do you guys think of the ' for words like don't. I usually just put dont as most people understand but it probably will make my english worse. :(

As mentioned before, hopefully more people use correct grammer, that includes the placement of: fullstops, captial letters, commas and the like.

In the name of Standard English, dont is not a word (in the way we mean by it). Don't shows that the o is missing.

But we don't want:
"Hello, dear chaps. This is an utterly splendid patch for Krikkett 2005, much applause."

We want sensible English. :D

Although to be fair text speak is simply the current evolution in English language along the lines of past developments.
Lynn Truss is very interesting on commas and their historical usage in 'Eats, Shoots and Leave'
