The funny side of Cricket.

This is an extract from Bill Lawry's Great Cricket Joke Book

England was cock-a-hoop when it gained a 2-0 lead in the 1936-7 Ashes series. England, sensing victory, therefore attempting to tighten the noose for the third test and England captain "Gubby" Allen even came up with a plan to dismiss the great Don Bradman. He told feildsman Walter Robins that, when given the signal, he had to run from square leg to long leg in the hope Bradman would hook.

The plan worked perfectly, with Bradman hooking and Robins running to exactly the right position - only to drop the catch. The remorseful Robins apoligised profusly, only for Allen to reply: "Don't give it a thought, Walter. It has probably cost us the rubber, but don't give it a thought." Bradman went on to make 270 and Australia won the match by 365 runs. They then won the series 3-2!
