There are reports of the guy having to clean and wash buses and earn $17 an hour. What went wrong for the guy? I know there was some issue with him and Vincent, and that Vincent suggest Cairns helped him, or rather mentored him to fix matches. However as I remember, Cairns was never named and it was only hinted that it was Cairns.

So just what happened? Surely if nothing else a pundit stint on one of the NZ channels would be in order. I don't know how many sports networks there are in NZ, but I am sure one of them would be willing to hire Cairns, especially till charges are proven, which I understand was never done.

Yeah it is weird that he doesn't have a job in cricket given his status as a player, and it's weird that he doesn't have any money if he fixed matches on top of his player earnings.

I think it makes sense for TV channels to not hire him as a cricket analyst just yet. Too much uncertainty over his involvement. Maybe the sports channels in NZ are tied in closely with cricket board, which would not allow them to hire him.

Also, $17/hour is actually quite a respectable salary if he is getting full hours per week (its 32-40 hours per week for a full time job over here in Canada)

Ofcourse, if he was in India he would probably be able to get an election ticket :| Or probably be on Dance India Dance or some Bigg Boss or some other reality show. I am sure he could still land a gig on Big Brother New Zealand/Australia

$17/hour is not very much in NZ, I was earning more in retail.

I don't think any cricket team want to associate with him unless he has been completely cleared of all charges.

He is about to be charged/has been charged with perjury in the UK so we will have to see what happens there

I am sure there are news channels in India who would jump at the opportunity to have someone like Cairns (till charges are proved) on their panels. Most of the news channels roll out all kind and manner of failed cricketers on their news shows to do a quick 15 mins analysis. Language could be a problem, for the Hindi channels, but in todays day and age I think that could easily be handled and worked around. There are a fair share of English channels too, who would be interested in someone like Cairns.
