It's not that bad. I am pretty new, have mainly 17 year old trainees. Newton will go by the end of next season, still got him and a bowler with the same stats but a bowler (batting > bowling, concentration > consistency), who will go soon too.

just buy a whole lot of comp/med/med on the market for 1000 each. Most of my players are competent with 4 resp. batsman and a few good bowlers

It's not just that simple.

I'm buying players going through my squad replacing the worse ones. Newton is going really well, as is Waterworth, my med/med bowler. I'll replace them by the end of next season probably.

Why would I buy a big load of comp/med/med's when I already have bought heaps of 17 year old comp's and have already got waaaaay to many to train or use?

Why? He is doing fine opening, his partner has struggled, and been dropped from the shorter forms.

Yeah I have med med med opening and he is going great.

Hedger, tbh Fieldhouse and teasdale are pretty useless atm.

I have a player who is Proficient Stamina, Batting and Bowling but it woeful Conc and Cons so I won't be playing him in my 1st XI for a while. He is only 17 so it's all good.
