TheArtofCricket.net

The way things are going at the moment the site should be up on Monday. Matt has sent me a preview of what he's done and it's excellent, better than anything I expected! He even did a custom blurb which looked professional for it. I've also decided to create a signature for myself just like his!

You little ripper Matt. The website looks awesome. Excellent work, I really don't know what to say. Speechless.
Smashing job.
Also good work to Lee who made everything work.
I commend you both for your efforts! :)

trying a new look duff? :D

and yeah the website rocks, totally original.

however, the critic in me forbids me to go further on praise :p, but I have a few suggestions.

the buttons look too big for 800x600.
remove that home button on the right menu, doesn't fit there

the gallery still has scopes of improvement.Try putting big "next pic" and "previous pic"buttons.
Also I have enough experience to say that nostalgia is good for promotion.
So it would be good to have catgories to organise those pictures.
I would suggest development scale to organise them, like pre engine, no art, models only, stadia views and things like that.

It would be more better if u attached tags to those pics, so that a user can search for what they want.
For eg, one only wants to view shots in action, so he can instead search for them rather then looking at them one by one.
It helps in promotion if one tries to put all the content, however little it may be, in such a organised manner that a surfer can easily look for what he wants.

ALSO make sure that there is a INCOMPLETE warning on the site.
particularly graphics engine has not been fully developed, hence it is important that a surfer knows this fact, even if we have to stuff it inside his nose.
Graphics form a lot on initial impressions part, and LM wouldn't want wrong info conveyed on the first step.

Excellent comment, BL...

I agree, we do need to really make it clear that it is still very much "UNDER DEVELOPMENT" so people dont start asking "where are the shadows?" or "where are the stadiums?" etc

Also gallery probably could be slightly more organised..with next/prev stuff..

but overall, great work guys, very impressive...much much better...!!! :cheers

Great work on the website to all involved. Also excellent constructive critisim there Blackleo. You've hit the nail on the head with the improvements that need to be made :clap

To add to blackleo's quote, could you please post a timeline of what is being done when...it may add a new dimention to the site...if your not sure please just say that its subject to change...

This will also stop people asking where everything is

Hope this helps

manee

Freelance developers rarely stick to a schedule in my opinion so one day the bowling could be worked on and the next bugs with the batting could be sorted out, so I don't think a timeline type feature would be accurate or appropriate for this particular game but I will seek the opinions of those higher up than me and find out for you :working

Nice smiley...sometimes I say things that dont make sense...but bare with me...ill come up with something that makes sense sometime

Everything looks big on 800x600, like the game the site is optimised for higher resolutions, but still works on lower ones, which is the reason I will give for everything being big. The real reason would be I only looked at it in 800x600 once during the development, to see if all the top navigation fitted on the screen and didn't take much else about it into account.

The problems here begin with the cumbersomeness of using html only, which means basically no search. There is also no 'slideshow' view of it for that reason. I will probably start learning php soon so I can implement the site better, in an ideal situation I would have been able to do this all within the scope of a CMS, which isn't the case. The solution to this is to merge a gallery into a cms, something that would require a bit of work, and in the intrest of not having an even longer delay I did it in html, for now at least.
As for an incomplete warning, most of the text on the site is written so that it implys that the game is incomplete, so I don't think it's required but it isn't a big deal to add a bit to the blurb on the front page that explains it clearly.

But still, there needs to be a notification. It is very, very essential.

remember, nothing is obvious to people, there are many there with common sense and intelligence of trolls.;)
