Third Largest Sporting Event ??

I don't understand why basketball is being named here. Cricket is pretty big in the world, but only to some selected countries. In Europe this doesn't live up as much as it does in the Test playing nations.

Rugby sucks. We all know whos already won the next RWC. How boring is that.

Yep, just like we all knew who was going to win the 1999 WC right?

I actually know quite a few Americans who like and follow Rugby, going so far as to denounce American Football

It was like the one of the biggest sports over there in the early 19th century I think, even bigger then American Football. They also play it at College and California has been so good at it, it's just dumb. I think there 2nd team is like the 2nd best team in the country lol.

some most populated countries support cricket that mean cricket is third largest sport events
Bangladesh 147 million
India 1 Billion
Pakistan 165 Million
south Africa 44 milion
Australia 20 million
Sri Lanka 20 million
Zimbabwe 12 Million
New Zealand 4 Million
England 60 million

Total 1.47 billion +
WORLD 6.5 Billion

Those first three really help out. Aus, SA, England all are fans of Rugby so they would cancel out.

I read in the paper today, that it was estimated at around 2.6 billion people. Me and my friend were just curious at how many people watched it.

Rugby's boring. Soccer's boring'er. AFL's the best form of football because Rugby consistantly stops every couple of seconds and soccer is 80 minutes of turnovers and no scoring.

But I don't think the Cricket WC should be held that high up as ODI cricket isn't the highest level in cricket.

I don't really think there is an ulimate sporting event because it just comes down to matter of liking.

No way. Superbowl is confined to the USA. I'm guessing the Olympics is bigger than that.
Indeed it is.

The top three most watched sporting events are as follows:-

1. Association Football World Cup
2. The Olympics
3. Cricket World Cup

The Superbowl is probably fourth though.

Rugby certainly has been in a decline in recent years as indicated by drops in crowds in Aus and SA but it is still very strong in NZ, England, Scotland and Ireland. By your theory then if Australia wins every ODI or test match then cricket sucks?

olympics is much more popular than the superbowl

Olympics is easily the most followed sporting event in the world, no doubt about that hence the amount of countries in participation and the amount of bids to host the games.

Don't agree with what you say about rugby and soccer. Every sport realistically have a tedious stage of the game and an exciting stage of a game. In ODI's the middle overs can be rather tedious and in test matches it can also be tedious when a team is just defending. Personally I watch soccer and cricket equally.

Well that supports the argument that CWC may possibly be the 3rd most popular sporting event. And in all honesty the only reason why I see cricket in a financially prosperous state is because of India. Take a look at the sponsors of the WC, the major sponsors are pretty much all Indian based. If India were remotely interested in cricket than I would say cricket would be easily less popular than rugby and most other sports.

If cricket is a democracy, it is no surprise Asia is accused as taking over the ICC. Probability says so!

I did wonder that while watching highlights of the first game, who the hell are 'Hero Honda'? Are they a cheap rip-off of Honda? And were are all the Blue Chip companies who sponsor the World Cup? They all seem to be Asian based sponsors, not like the Football or Rugby World Cups with BIG BIG Sponsors, Cricket makes do with whats left.
How expensive are the tickets, disappointed that the grounds aren't packed out, more great organisation from the ICC, Not!!
