This is just wierd.

I bet George Greegan will be bext, he will be playing for Queensland.

It's degrading cricket full stop. Surely Cricket Australia has rules regarding teams selecting their best available side?

I doubt, as it can only be assumed that NSW are playing their best available side, and common sense probably doesn't intertwine- because as long as Johns' registered with NSW cricket, CA, as far as I know, don't have any jurisdiction over selection matters past that point. Anyway, the plan'll probably be so badly torn apart by thousands of critics between now and then that NSW cricket will be subsequently forced to rethink their plans in order to keep their image in tact...

highly unlikely, what could the rules possibly be?

cannot select former NRL players?

All this is doing is making a mockery of twenty20 cricket and how Cricket NSW sees 2020 as a game purely for the spectators. A one off game then yes, but 2 games and possibly a final if NSW qualify really is ridiculous.

Well, the short tournament is scheduled for early January, and he is set to appear on both the 7th and 10th of the month.

yeah all the proceeds are going to charity, so i guess that is a positive as with johns playing it will draw larger crowds, thus more money to charity

@ Andrew Nixon, soz see that now, but even if they did that, who determines "the best side" every player has his own argument, you could even argue that johns lifts the moral of the players so much that they all perform at top form making him more useful than who he is replacing, no one can prove it wrong

Then there is the argument that charity games should only be played outside of actual competitions, ie. they should be friendlies.

either way this is doing exactly what NSW cricket board wanted it to do. Create publicity and draw the crowds, so congrats on them, they really have got everyone talking

But then if they lose by a small margin, people may say that they'd have won the game if a proper player was playing, and they'll get criticised.

No matter what happens, cricket will be the loser here, despite all the publicity.

Even if Johns was not selected, there would be a large crowds anyway. Last year North Sydney Oval was packed each game with over 10,000 in.
