Hi there
I've been playing the PS2 version of this game for a few weeks now and agree with many of you that even on test mode, the AI score too quickly and then get out too easily. However, playing another person, this game is fantastic. Unfortunately, with the PS2 you cannot play online and you don't always have someone willing to play a game against you so you're pretty much stuck with single player.
Well my solution is to go to options when playing a game and turn the pitch-point indicator off. This basically means that all you see when the bowler bows is the aiming ring and then thats it.. so you know roughly where the ball is going.
Why this makes bowling harder:
When you are bowling to the AI, you don't know precisely where the ball is going to go. This means that you can't make small corrections with the swing buttons to make adjustments to the flight of the ball. Moreover, you cant tell until after a few deliveries how far the ball is going to turn on the pitch.
Why this makes batting harder:
For obvious reasons, batting is a lot more difficult since you cannot plan your shot as the ball leaves the bowlers hand. You must watch the ball instead of the pitch point indicator and I have to admit it's much more rewarding to hit a clean shot now. Moreover, you can now see the ball swing visibly in the air, since your eyes aren't focussed on the red/grey dot.
Admitibly, I'm yet to face a spin bowler, using this method, but I can imagine having to use the defend shot button a lot more which must be a good thing.
So does this method work:
Ok, so I tried this out in a 50 over ODI Eng vs SL. I won the toss and elected to bowl first since I had tried batting at the end of a previous match.
After 22 overs (when I decided to stop and write this and then watch the CWC highlights on BBC!) Sri Lanka were on ~120-4 (it was around 120, can't remember precisely).
Pics of scorecard at bottom
Now this might be a coincidence, but I feel the AI is less aggressive (or maybe my bowling was just tighter than normal) with this method and encourage you all to have a try.
