Can someone briefly explain how the training/nets work in this as I don't get it?
Do my selected 5 players get trained on that very day or do they have to be left in the nets all week to have any effect? If I change the players in the nets daily do they get any training?

No. The training updates happen on saturday, whatever the set nets are when the updates happen is the training. Changing it around on say, a wednesday morning then back again friday night has no effect.
