TV Series General Discussion

Got this and Fallout on my watchlist after three months. Hope they don’t release any banger shows in the meantime.
Just finished the Fallout series. Makes me want to try the games as well. Really really good

The Boys S4 and The Bear S3 are on my watchlist for the year.

New Vegas with mods to ensure the game doesn’t break is supposed to be one of the best gaming experienced of all time, can’t go wrong with that if you’re willing to tolerate the jank. Fallout 4 was also supposed to be decent. And despite 76’s rocky launch, it has been updated to be in a solid state now and has a decent community plus fanbase.

I really disliked the Boys S3 finale due to how sloppily it handled some of the character arcs away from where they were leading towards due to having a predetermined ending that was decided much earlier. Feel like they’ve written themselves into a corner with Homelander where they realise him being unhinged and a constant threat is the main attraction which leads to them feeding into it even at the expense of other characters. S4 would have to be really good to pull me back in.

Do we need to know the game to appreciate the movie? I neither played it nor do I know what it's about.

I don’t think so from the comments I’ve seen but the show does have a huge list of callbacks and easter eggs from the games that were apparently worked into the story very well.

I'm familiar with the games from video essays about them and that's it.

The biggest complaint I've seen from some Fallout fans (apart from the incels and racists) is to do with some retconning of the timeline as the show is part of the same 'canon' as the games (which is irrelevant if you've not played the games) but on the whole it's seems very well received.

Shogun’s first episode was fire.

Why is Shogun soooo good. Amazing characters, amazing screenplay, amazing locations.

Watched the first three episodes of the new season of The Boys. It's good, but doesn't feel quite as strong as it has been.

Might start watching it after my exam but I’m not particularly keen on it either. Feels like they exposed themselves as being nothing better than their satirical criticism with the finale to the last season and they have nowhere else to go after this.

Good thing it’s ending next season.

The satirical criticism is in overload in these first three episodes. Not that it's bad, and it's always been there, but it feels like they've really leaned into even harder.

Sounds a bit like they’ve leaned into desperation then.

Watched the first episode of the new season of House of Dragon. There was a significant event that I've heard about which I've tried to avoid specific details and I was completely underwhelmed when it did. In fact I had to go online to watch a ASOIF/GoT streamer to check if it was what I'd been avoiding because I thought it'd have far more gravitas that came across.

Emma D'arcy, Matt Smith, Rhys Ifans and Eve Best are excellent, as is most of the cast.

Completed the first four seasons of Community. I am too much invested into the characters to quit but the show does drop the odd peak episode. Other than that, most normal episodes are fine. It can be cringey at times and too wholesomy but they make it up for it generally. Paintball episodes are best.

House is one show that was on my watchlist for long and I am one episode away from finishing the first season. Most episodes are good to watch even if you don't really know how much of the medical jargon is true and how much is random stuff. House, as a character, is so funny to watch. I have had more laughs per episode than Community. The second-last episode "Three Stories" features brilliant story-telling and I would put it right up with my favourite TV episodes, that one from Lost where Desmond time-travels and calls Penny (not sure if I am remembering it right).
