Typing lag while online

This has been happening for quite a few days now - I type something and the letters delay before they come up on screen. At first, it was a mildly funny thing to watch, but now it's becoming annoying. Any ideas what's going on? I have scanned for malware and all's clean.

Does it happen only the first time you start typing, or continues with the entire paragraph/sentence?

What browser are you using? Try a different browser to see if the problem persists.

Abhas added 3 Minutes and 45 Seconds later...

This problem could also be related to your display drivers.
Update the drivers to the latest/most stable version, and try.

Do you use Firefox? If so there is sometimes a problem whereby Plugin Container will for no real reason start hogging your CPU thus causing extremely slow performance such as it taking an age for letters to appear on screen.

Seems to happen at random - that last sentence for example, was fine. I have the latest drivers for my system. :)

Yep, Firefox is my browser of choice. :)

It's not likely to be related to malware of any kind then?

Check the CPU Usage. (CTRL+Shift+Esc) to open taskmanager, and click on performance. If the CPU usage is on the higher side, click on the processes tab and see which process is consuming the CPU. If it's firefox, most likely, like Themer said, it's a plugin that's causing the problem.

Try Internet Explorer if that works fine. If it does, then the problem is almost guaranteed to be a faulty plugin.

I believe I know what your issue may be---I've had it happen to my computer once and to a friend's computer once.

Check the Firefox app data folders (C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\something.default) and see if there are a bunch of duplicates of one file. I think the file is the sessionstore file. If there are duplicates, it will be something like sessionstore-1, sessionstore-2, etc. If this is the case, quit Firefox, delete all the duplicate files and restart Firefox.

Thanks friend, I'll give that a try. :)

Edit: Nope, don't think it's that - I only see one Sessionstore, along with a 'sessionstore.bak'.

I've got a feeling it's a virus or spyware. Remember: one spyware program doesn't detect all the spyware. Try a different one.

And one virus program doesn't detect also not everything.

Other reason could be that your memory is too much loaded with 'pre loaded programs'. I don't know what the word of that is again, but the programs appear at the right in the lower bottom of your screen. You should get rid of some of these programs. Clearing temporary files helps also.

I scanned with AVG, Adaware and Spybot - none of them turned up anything. I know what you mean about spyware - that's why I have a network of defence, instead of relying on just one package.

Have you tried ending the process Plugin Container?

As I said earlier it starts to hog all your CPU causing typing and the like to lag.

I'm not showing the process Plugin Container running at right now. Am getting slight lag at the moment.

Edit: Odd. I've just noticed that when I get typing lag, Mr Dancing Banana and other animated smilies also seem to lag as well.

Tuneup Utilities 2010 is arriving in a few days, maybe that can help.
