Typing lag while online

Did you create a new Firefox profile? This seems to solve quite a lot of problems.

I've done that now - is there a way to get all my toolbar shortcuts into this profile, or can having too many of those slow things down?

Edit: I think there's some improvement with the new profile. So, what sort of things can slow it down? For example, I have an animated Top Gear logo as my theme - but that's been there for ages without any typing lag. Instead of creating a new profile, is there a way to clean up the old one? I've got all my shortcuts, favourites and so on on my old profile, it's gonna be a chore to make them all again. Thanks for your help though.

Edit: I think the lag's gone completely now, thanks for that. Just need to know how to avoid getting it cluttered up again now.

You can switch back to the old profile and export the bookmarks. Then switch back to the new one and import them.

It wouldn't be one thing that slows it down, probably a combination of 2 or 3. Maybe the theme is not working well with a plugin or two plugins are conflicting (Totally Hypothesizing there.. could be something very different).

I'm so sure I've had this issue but I just can't remember where the offending duplicate files were!

You can try launching FF in Safe Mode and see if the problem persists. If it does, then it's not related to the add-ons but to your profile data.

OK, I'll try that. I seem to be getting a little bit of lag with the new profile now as well.

It seems that when running under Win XP, I get little or no typing lag - in fact the internet seems to be running more smoothly all round, whereas on Win 7 that's not the case. (At this point, I need a 'confused' smilie).

Did you think it was a hardware issue? If you didn't, I can't see why this is greatly surprising. A different OS with a million different settings; I'd be surprised if you could find an issue that is common to both.

Are you using a different Firefox version in XP? If so, try using that one in Win 7.

Maybe that's it - I've only been playing Fifa 11 on XP because it won't run smoothly under Win 7 64bit - maybe using the version of Firefox I'm using on XP will help. Thanks for that.

I've would've expected it to run worse under Win 7 because I've had XP for much longer, so I would've expected it to be a lot more cluttered with stuff. Anyway, it's worth a try.
