Your Cricket Uni Cricket: A True Challenge? (And now Club Cricket)

After being....ahem...indisposed last week, I just got back from training. It was tbh, a crap session and I am now in a rubbish mood. Firstly I can't go on the tour as I have to visit relatives that week, so was not happy even before the session started.

I was the first on today with my new pads and my new bat. First ball is a beamer, which I never even saw and it took me straight in the mid-drift. After that I decided to play like along the lines of Tim Ambrose. I was really strong on my off-side, especially short and wide, yet if people got it straight or on my pads I was crap :(

Then came the bowling. No wicket, not that fast, and my knee played up so I had to call it a day pretty early on.

OMG, OMG, OMG. I think that has got to be one of the most exciting cricket training sessions ever. I bumped into this guy on the bus, and he was looking for the training. It turned out he was from Sri Lanka and we got talking. He started telling me about how he had played with people like Murali, Dilshan and a few other names when he was younger. Apparently he had the chance to take his cricket to the top, but he decided to go the business route.

He then says to me, "Oh, I am a batsman" First ball from him, I am thinking is going to be a gentle dobber. I barely saw it, as it swung in to my middle stump. He then decided to call himself a batting allrounder :p I ended up just giving up trying to play him and decided to just try and waft the bat forward and hope I somehow hit the ball. Apart from that, I actually batted pretty well. He was the only guy to get me out, and I hit some good shots.

My bowling at the beginning was really good, until this Sri Lankan came into bat. There was not a single area where he was weak. My only consolation is that he left a couple of my deliveries which were seaming away. Then he went and hit me all over the place.

Overall it was a really good session. I walked back with this guy and found out he lives 2 minutes from me, so in exchange for him helping me out with my cricket when he is free, I have to buy him a few pints when we meet up this week ;) I think it is a fair trade :p Seriously, it was really good to actually play against someone who could have been at the top if he had decided to take the risk. (For a 26 year old, he doesn't seem to mind helping a 19 year old out which is pretty decent of him ;))

Making my debut tomorrow against Edinburgh Uni :banana2 :banana2 Odds are I'll make a duck :p but hey I think there are only two first years in the team, so can't compain ;) I just hope it stops raining :upray

sounds like you have a big crush on this guy. "OMG OMG OMG. I bumped into this guy"

lol :D

Finally making my debut. Should have been playing today for the 2XI down in Ayrshire, but I got told if I miss another tutorial I get kicked off the course. So instead, I am playing in the Club XI (:D) in a 20/20 vs St. Andrews this Saturday and then for the 3XI in a 40/40 against St Andrews this Sunday.

Also yesterday in the nets, I got a bit lucky. Some guy who came throught the Sussex youth academy turned up and was tanking everyone all over the place. I was the only person to get him with a perfect yorker (which I could never do again) Earned me alcohol, so I wasn't going to say anything :p

Finally back playing for my club. Had a nets session this evening which went pretty well, just need to try and get out of work for this coming weekend so I can play :laugh Given up on the bowling, my knee just can't take it, which means I can focus 100% on my batting and slip catching now. Here's hoping I can score a few runs this season :)
