Warlords bottle a thriller!

It looked like Central Warlords were on track for a domestic double when they needed 29 from 24 balls, with 2 set batsmen at the crease in Luuk Kalotang and Nailin Bani. But Ronald Stephen, with his part time slow bowling, bowled a stunning 47th over, giving away 4 runs and dismissing Kalotang. Stephen returned to bowl the last over, when 15 runs were needed, holding his nerve despite being hit for two boundaries.

The win had been set up by a clinical first innings batting performance, led by possibly the discovery of the tournament, Eprahim Meto. The Warlords bowlers lacked penetration, which could possibly have been the difference between the two sides at the end.

I hear he was let go by Harpoons because of disciplinary reasons
Yup you heard correct, he was too disciplined, on the practice grounds even before the watchman, finished practiced after the janitor cleans up, others were getting too shy around his amazing work ethic. Plus we add his incredible cricketing skills, the other players were feeling they were letting him down by not performing to his standards, so the other players don't feel embarrassed he requested the disciplinary leave.

VCF announced in a press conference earlier today that a tour match against Vanuatu A on October 26 has been set up for Kazakhstan's visit to Vanuatu. After that series, Vanuatu A will play a tri-series against the national teams of Indonesia and Fiji to promote international cricket in the Asia-Pacific region.

BULE QUITS TEST CAPTAINCY TO MANAGE WORKLOAD

bule.jpg
There have been concerns over Bule's workload

Vanuatu all-format captain and lead spinner has quit Test captaincy to manage his workload. Bule has just won the 2002 Commonwealth Games and is understood to prefer focusing on white-ball cricket. While he will still be available for Test selection, the reduced burden is meant to help Bule focus on his personal performance.

It is currently unclear who the VCF will turn to, to lead in upcoming Test matches. Vanuatu do not have any other Test series scheduled this year. It is understood VCF are eager to appoint a bowler, as there is a popular notion in Vanuatuan cricket that "batsmen can't be captains", although Dgen Kalsakau and Alphonse Tari have had success at domestic level. Mark Mansale continues to rebuff the international captaincy.

2003 Domestic Teams News
Central Warlords have been split into two teams: Sanma Warlords, and Malampa Musketeers. This comes in an effort to end governance issues and disputes between the two provinces which jointly ran the franchise. Players will be split between the 2 teams.

This is the second time a franchise has been split, after Shefa Sharks and Tafea Pirates were formed from Southern Pirates in 2001.
