England's injured captain Michael Vaughan hopes to be playing in three weeks' time, giving him a chance to play in the Ashes series.

I think his best chance of playing again is next season, maybe captaining us against the West Indies and India. Come on Vaughany!

I dont think he can afford to be captain, these may be his last games he are playing (as his injury will likely reoccur), so he needs a few memorable performances in attempting to retain the Ashes.

if he plays, he will just injur his knee again and be out for even longer, he needs to rest it until next season or the world cup the earliest

I wouldn't want to play straight away either. I mean he may be a great captian but if he plays straight away he'll probably be out of form and even worse be more likely to injury himself. I think it's just talk to worry the Aussies.

Although it will be great to see him back. I really cant see him playing a part in the Ashes series unless we get masses of injuries. Surely Bell and Collingwood will be ahead of him in the pecking order, despite him still being the official captain of England.

Even if he is fit he is lacking the match practice so I doubt he will be a benefit to England.

Nice to see the world's best captain back. However, I can see the England management rushing him back again and just making his kneee worse. If the ECB want Vaughan back for good, then they should keep him on the sidelines until the home Tests in the summer. Besides, it would be grossly unfair on Cook, Collingwood and Bell should Vaughan immediatley grant a place in the side in place of them.

As far as I'm aware, Inzy has been suspended for some time.

Stephen Fleming was injured?

Rushing an underdone Vaughan back into the side would be a big bonus, just not to England.

Inzamam?! Now I know Brad made a valid point with Fleming, but Inzy is a shocking captain and comes nowhere near Vaughan in terms of captaincy.

Yeah, Inzamam-ul-Haq is nowhere near the best captain in international cricket. I would mellow it by saying Michael Vaughan is the best test captain in international cricket, with Stephen Fleming the undoubted best one-day international captain in international cricket.

Yes Gk but it would have been difficult to give it to someone who has spent most of this last year out injured. I thought it was fairly amazing that he was even that close to winning it despite barely playing any cricket. Anyway well deserved for Jaya and he does look like he could be a very good captain.

Back on topic and regarding Vaughan, I really think most of the talk coming out is to try and keep the Aussies guessing, as throwing him into the middle of the most important series the England team has played in a long time is hardly ideal preparation. If he is fit by then and everything is going pear shaped then maybe I can see a reason for bringing him in, but other than that he shouldn't play again until next season as he hardly deserves a place in the Odi team based on performances, although they can hardly get any worse with him :p

Why? Him playing is a gain for us.
