GILCHRIST AND PONTING DESTROY IN OPENING 15

ausinng.jpg

England are heading for there first defeat of the series with Australia racing along at 7 an over. Gilchrist has smashed his way to 45 and ponting has gone at more than a run a ball for his 34. However it seemed that England would have full control of the first 15 when Harmison removed Hayden for just 10. After bolwing bouncers to the left hander, Hayden eventually midle one straight to deep backward poitn who hedl on to a boundary catch. This however was the only wicket to fall with the rest of the bowlers having little luck. With spin seeming the key factor in this match England introduced Giles and Vaughan after the 10 th over, however these two so far have been expensive and have been taken out of the attack after 4 overs between them.

5 WICKETS IN 5 OVERS LEAVES AUSSIES IN TROUBLE

ausinng2.jpg

England staged a remarkable come back by taking 5 wickets within the space of 30 balls. Gilchrist was the first to go when he was caught on the boundary by D.Gough. Then within the space of an over Ponting went after being trapped LBW. Martyn was then clean bolwed after just adding 2 leading to the wicket of Katich who was given LBW although it appears the ball was missing the stump. However no explanation was needed for Clarkes dismissal after the bails flew to the ground. Harmison was the key bowler in this session bowling five overs and taking 4 wickets. Flintoff, althoguh caostly added to the wickets collum dismissing Ponting who looked in dangerous form.

HODGE & MCGRATH PARTNERSHIP EARNS DRAMATIC WIN

ausend.jpg

ausend2.jpg

Australia staged a remarkable victroy after G.Mcgrath and B.Hodge put ona last wicket stand of 43. It seemed England had the match won after Australia slumped to 182 for 9 with them still requiring 43 to win. Symodns was the first to lose his wicket when he was caught in Collingwoods first over for 16 leaving Australia on the verge of defeat at 177 for 7. However things got worse when Collingwood removed hogg for just 3 LBW. Now Gillespie came to the crease and manages to ast out the over. However Gillespie was caught by Strauss at slip of Giles when he manage to edge a sweeps shot of hsi leg which ballooned into the sky. England now sensed victory by bringing in fielders of the fence, this didn't pay of with Mcgrath smahsing 4 even though it wasn't very convincing. England and Gough especially bowled agressively to both Batsemn but when McGrath hit a No- Ball bouncer for 4 the game looked lost with them only needing 4 to win. Gough bowled to dots and a yorker which was well dug out.. Then a reverse swinging yorker at 140 KPH, McGrath steps across his stumps and clips it fine for 4 and winning the match and the first of the series as well.
