The Danish international made a fantastic run into the box before executing a brilliant bending shot. Stuttgart won that game 2-1.

N?rnberg's Mario Cantaluppi's strike against Schalke came second, while Jan Koller's goal against Frankfurt was rated third best.

Fernando Meira wont be available for a week

There is some bad news for Stuttgart as well. Fernando Meira, who also scored in that win over K?ln, has been ruled out of action for atleast one week because of a concussion the player suffered during Thursday's UEFA Cup game against Valerenga.

Arminia Bielefeld face VfB Stuttgart

Sunday 2 October 2005

Stuttgart travel to Bielefeld for their Bundesliga encounter, just three days after the gruelling game against Valerenga in the UEFA Cup.

Claudio Ranieri's side drew that game 1-1 and went through to the next stage of the competition on the away goal rule. But the Italian was far from convinced.

"We played poorly and were fortunate in the end with the result. But we cannot afford to repeat that performance, and I want to get things back on track starting from the game against Arminia," said Ranieri.

Stuttgart are without defensive midfielder Fernando Meira, who is suffering from a concussion.

The home side Arminia Bielefeld were beaten by Bayern 3-1 last weekend and manager Thomas von Heesen hopes for a improved display against Stuttgart.

"The game against Bayern was a difficult one, especially since it was at their stadium. But I think we will perform a whole lot better against Stuttgart in front of our own fans," said von Heesen.

thats great that the game is so in depth that it even produces a goal of the month report. im sure that you can come away with a positive result away from home against Arminia Bielefeld.

Thats a nice little add on in the game. I guess Stuttgart have a easy tie this time around.

Arminia are playing the 4-4-2 standard formation with two wingers operating. Horst Heldt starts right in the middle for the home side.

Stuttgart have responded in style after a poor performance in mid-week. They should have scored more goals, as they dominated the home side Arminia in almost every aspect. But in the end, it was Cacau's early goal that seperated the two teams.

The goal came in the third minute when Thomas Hitzlsperger sprinted along the left flank before centering a perfect ball for Cacau in the box, and the Brazilian headed the ball into the back of the net. Cacau went and hugged Hitzlsperger for the fine cross as the two celebrated Stuttgart's great start to the match.

Thomas Hitzlsperger had a cracking game today. He setup Cacau's goal with an inch-perfect cross from the left, and overall gave the Arminia defenders a tough time today. The German international also had two attempts on goal himself, out of which one was very close. The defenders apart from Boris Zivkovic, who received a yellow card for a clumsy tackle on Isaac Boakye, had a good game. So did Jesper Gronkjaer, who came very close to getting on the scoresheet himself, but his shot hit the upright. Cacau did well, and infact outshone Jon Dahl Tomasson in the first half. But the Brazilian had to be substituted at half time after picking up a knock.

In the second half Ranieri maintained an attacking mentality and brought on Iv?n Gonz?lez for the injured Cacau. Christian Genter and Markus Babbel were also introduced late in the game.

Arminia were simply outclassed today by the visitors, and apart from their Albanian striker Fatmir Vata, no one really troubled Stuttgart. Vata had three of the team's total four shots on goal.

Thomas Hitzlsperger was the obvious choice for man of the match. Stunning performance from the 23 year old.

Hitzlsperger shines in Stuttgart win

Sunday 2 October 2005

hitzlyz2.jpg

Thomas Hitzlsperger was in top form against Arminia Bielefeld

Cacau's header early in the game was enough to get Stuttgart the three points. The Brazilian headed the ball in off Thomas Hitzlsperger's superb cross.

The match took place under some heavy rain, and the players really had to work hard with their passes. But despite that, Thomas Hitzlsperger made a fine run along the left flank before putting the cross in for Cacau's headed goal. Cacau kissed the Stuttgart badge on his jersey before hugging and thanking Hitzlsperger for his superb assist. It was the perfect start for Stuttgart and Claudio Ranieri.

In the 14th minute, the home side had the oppurtunity to draw level when Fatmir Vata had the goal at his mercy, but the Albanian striker hit it high and above the crossbar.

Hitzlsperger then led another superb Stuttgart attack and did brilliantly to get past Massimiliano Porcello, but his shot in the end was just over the bar.
Minutes later Hitzlsperger was involved in another Stuttgart attack, and played a nice one-two with Silvio Mei?ner before passing it to Tomasson. But the Dane's shot was blocked by Arminia defender Petr Gabriel.

Arminia Goalkeeper Mathias Hain was called into action again when Cacau found himself in some space after picking up a wonderful 45 yard ball from Heiko Gerber. But the Brazilian's shot was tipped away for a corner by Hain. Stuttgart almost scored from the corner, which was taken by Jesper Gronkjaer, but Marcel Schuon's header was inches wide of goal.

Bernd Korzynietz was shown the first yellow card of the game for pulling Jon Dahl Tomasson's jersey. Hitzlsperger took the free-kick and passed the ball to Tomasson on the left corner before the Dane tried to cross it in but the ball fell to Massimiliano Porcello.

Tomasson then had a decent attempt on goal but Hain was able to handle it comfortably. Cacau rifled a shot in low soon after, but once again Hain came out on top.

Nebojsa Krupnikovic long ranger just before half time was Arminia's only second shot on target, but Timo Hildebrand was able to grab hold of the ball with ease.

Mario Carevic also had a shot that was deflected off Petr Gabriel, but Hain was able to make the save.

Cacau was then involved in a collision with Petr Gabriel, and had to taken off, as Stuttgart played the final few seconds of the first half with ten men.

Ranieri was pleased with the first half performance and told his team to maintain the dominance over the home side.

Cacau was substituted in the second half after picking up that knock in the first half, and Iv?n Gonz?lez came on for the Brazilian. Jon Dahl Tomasson was the victim of a clumsy challenge by Dominik Reinhardt, and the referee had no choice but to show the yellow card. Soon after Massimiliano Porcello also received a yellow card for a tackle from on the back on Thomas Hitzlsperger. The Stuttgart player was making a nice run along the left flank once again before being brought down by a sliding Porcello.

Boris Zivkovic then became the first Stuttgart player to get a yellow card for his tackle on Isaac Boakye.

Following this nasty period of the game, Jesper Gronkjaer got himself into some space and went for goal, only for Mathias Hain to put it away for another corner. And Gronkjaer was looking dangerous once again on that right flank, but was brought down by Tobias Rau, who was yellow carded for the same.

Arminia manager made all the three changes in the 71st minute, bringing in Backhaus, Westermann and Dammeier for Krupnikovic, Kobylik and Korzynietz respectively.

A little later Jon Dahl Tomasson received a nice headed pass from Iv?n Gonz?lez and did brilliantly to get past defenders Backhaus and Rau in the rain. The Stuttgart striker then tried to chip the keeper but the ball dint dip in time and fell on the top netting. Tomasson was disappointed with the final touch.

Stuttgart then went on the defensive as Ranieri introduced Christian Genter for Mario Carevic, and Markus Babbel for Boris Zivkovic. But Arminia werent able to find an equaliser and Stuttgart won the game 1-0.

After the game, Stuttgart manager Claudio Ranieri was full of praise for Thomas Hitzlsperger.

"Thomas was fantastic today. He was always getting into good positions and also made some great passes and crosses. He created our goal, and had a fine game overall.

And overall I am very pleased with the players have responded after a disappointing display in the UEFA Cup," said Ranieri.

Arminia manager Thomas von Heesen said his team have been outplayed again and need to work a lot harder to chance things around.

"We were thrashed last weekend by Bayern, and today despite losing just by one goal, were outclassed by Stuttgart. I do not have the best players at my disposal, but will have to work a lot harder with all that I have to try and get back some form, and quickly," said von Heesen.

Man of the match Thomas Hitzlsperger was pleased with the team's display and said his team were ready for the eagerly anticipated clash against Bayern in mid-week.

"We enjoyed ourselves today and produced some of our best football. A lot of the things that we have been practicising so hard in training were executed perfectly on the field, despite the wet outfield.

We are now confident of facing and matching Bayern, and we do have the advantage of playing at home as well. Should be a great match, and one we can win," said Hitzlsperger.

Great game by the young German. Sad he couldn't cut it with Villa! How bad is Cacau's injury?

Stuttgart suffer Cacau injury blow

Cacau collides with Gabriel in Sunday's Bundesliga game

Stuttgart striker Cacau has been sidelined for four months because of a torn calf muscle. The Brazilian picked up the injury in a collision with Petr Gabriel during yesterday's 1-0 win over Arminia Bielefeld.

Stuttgart physio Christian Kolodziej had this to say:
"Cacau is, unfortunately, going to be out of action for around four months as he has suffered a torn calf muscle on his right leg while playing in yesterday's match. This is a setback to both the player and the club, and we will be working hard to ensure his proper recovery."

Cacau has scored four goals for Stuttgart so far in all competitions, and two in the Bundesliga. He scored the only goal of the game in that 1-0 victory over Arminia Bielefeld.

Kolodziej also said that Fernando Meira had recovered from his concussion but might not feature in the mid-week game against Bayern M?nchen.

Here are all the results from gameweek 7 of the Bundesliga.

Bayern were held to a draw by Hamburg, while Schalke too drew their game with Mainz. As a result Hannover went top of the table with a 1-0 win over Hertha Berlin. I dint notice that tbh:rolleyes: . But I still cant recall any other player getting injured after scoring in the same game.

From memory...

Gerber, Tomasson, F Meira and Cacau have all suffered from injuries. But only Cacau scored in the game that he picked up the injury.

After the game and having spoken to the press, Ranieri went to the dressing room and congratulated all his players.

"Well done boys! This was just the response I was looking for. Those long hours in the training ground were rewarded today, and as a manager it was a great sight. We looked like a complete team today, and that is just what we need against Bayern.

Now I would have loved to give you a day off, but once again there is too little a gap before our next game. And we will need to be at our collective best once again against Bayern. So you can report tomorrow by 4pm. I will work with Andreas and the other coaches in the morning, and we will train tomorrow evening and the whole of Tuesday," Ranieri told his players.

The team then headed back to Stuttgart that night. Chairman Erwin Staudt who was unable to travel to Bielefeld for the game called up Ranieri and congratulated him on the win.

Monday morning had some bad news for Ranieri and Stuttgart. Yesterday's goalscorer Cacau would not be allowed to play for another four months after suffering a torn calf muscle in that very game. Ranieri was no doubt disappointed and quickly called up the other strikers Marco Streller, Mario Gomez, and Ivan Gonzalez and told them it was a chance for one of them to take advantage of the oppurtunity.

Players reported for training that evening and continued on Tuesday. The three strikers, Gonzalez, Gomez and Streller were first made to train seperately and then with the entire squad.

Boris Zivkovic impressed the most in training, and Ranieri told him to maintain this display in the match against Bayern. He warned all the defenders that they would face a tough time against the likes of Makaay, Santa Cruz and Ballack.

By the end of Tuesday, Ranieri on consulting with the other coaches had also decided on playing Mario Gomez upfront alongside Jon Dahl Tomasson. Gomez outshone Streller and Gonzalez during training, and offers more pace than the other two.

Mario Gomez is expected to start against Bayern

5.10.2005

The players arrived early for a light session in the morning, which was being held at the stadium itself. They practiced their shooting and passing mainly. The Bayern Munich team also arrived at the ground and their players were also seen warming up.

I thought Streller would fill in for Cacau! Gomez has an acid test against Bayern first up!
