I have Acer V193HQV monitor which has a 15-pin VGA male port as shown in the image below:

I bought a Zotac Geforce GTX 1050 card. Its ports are as shown in the image below:

I've heard about VGA to DVI/HDMI converters but have also seen people complain that most adapters don't work. I've very little knowledge about this VGA/HDMI/DIV modes.

Would it be better to go for VGA to DVI adapter or VGA to HDMI one?

I honestly don't know much about the converters or adapters. So I can't help you on this. Sorry :)

Can't you just plug in with HDMI providing your monitor is also HDMI (sorry if this is a little lame). Me and my husband have never had a problem with convertors.

That's the problem. It isn't. The monitor only has a VGA port.

DVI/VGA converters are cheap and I've never had problems with them

Are you referring to active or passive adapter?

Well, as it turns out, I borrowed one from my office and it is working. Not sure if it's an active or passive though.adapter.jpg

Active, passive? I think I maybe learning something... What's the deal?

From what I know*, active adapters are those which are basically small graphics cards (if you can call them that) that read the DVI/HDMI signal, and then produce a completely different VGA signal as ouput which is then fed to the VGA/analog monitor.

Hence, active adapters are costly - around $25 whereas passive adapters are cheap - something around $4 - $5.

The 10 series no longer support analog, sadly. So, I think you need an active adapter but great that you've tried an adapter already and it works, that saves you from wasting your money on trying passive and other active adapters. :thumbs

Great. :thumbs
