What are the shorter sound file formats than mp3

The ones which run on Windows Media Player are wma files. Media Player can convert your cds to wma's easy enough. If you have Plus for XP there is an mp3 to wma converter with that, otherwise I'm not sure.

WMA audio format has better performance than mp3 audio. 96kbps WMA format sound quality is equal to 128kbps mp3 format, so using WMA format for your recording can save your disk space.
