I often wonder why people abbreviate it to EPL. No-one in England does.

Many ads here says EPL. But anyway, it has been customary to call Leagues and Associations in their abbrievated forms. Like ICC, BCCI, ECB, NBA, NHL, NFL, etc.

Because it isn't called the English Premier League.

Its called simply The Premier League.

Sports associations we tend to abbreviate, but when talking about the competitions we tend to say them in full. (the only exceptions seem to be NBA and NHL)

Anyway we've never put English before anything to do with football..... we invented it remember

i.e. the FA, the FA Cup, the Football League, The Premier League.
