Comprehensive is only about 10-15% more than TPFT, so worth it. Or at least it was for me.
Compared to those figures, road tax over here is based on emissions (such a flawed system, but nevermind). My Stilo is ?210 a year, I'd say that's probably about average in the country, that's on a 1.6 petrol, so hardly gas guzzling. Our Road Tax is just that, doesn't give any benefits other than being allowed on the road.
Insurance, well, those figures are very cheap compared to over here. I'm 23, had license for a year, no no claims, live in good area, job is fairly low risk, etc. ?914. Parent as a named driver pulled it down by 30%. Average for 17-18 year old's is about ?3k. Big insurance drop here is when you turn 25, but all premiums are going up because the industry is losing out massively due to increase in the American sueing culture we're getting.
Excess sounds high, mine is ?400 (part voluntary, part compulsory). If I lowered my voluntary excess to ?100 my Premium goes up about 10%, but if I go higher than the ?250 voluntary I have, it goes down such a tiny amount it's not worth it, I could double excess and it goes down by about ?30
Other costs, MOT every year, that is about ?30-50. Compulsory.
Fuel is the biggie. ?1.35 for a litre of petrol. It'll cost me about ?75 to fill up my Stilo. Fuel Tax, ah, so lovely. Looked online and you upside downers seem to be paying $1.35 per litre? Exchange rate is what 1.5 GBP to AUD.
