^ ya something like that something that lists or scrolls the topic to attention in DBC area. I put that because it is any way there and there was empty space, but the main point i wanted to convey was give quick links for DBC people of hot topics on the go instead of expecting them to visit other section or forum pages.

@MattW why is the Aussies tour of South Africa in the 'Cricket discussion' section but yet another on going tournament (the ICC under 19 WC) isn't? Doesn't make sense to me, is it simply due to a lack on interest in the under 19 WC?

It just hasn't been moved yet. Matt would have done the others.

Was tempted to move it, but I'm just waiting to see what is decided, for the set-up of the forum. :)

Oh right, I voted for 'In the International Tours and Events forum' as I think 'Cricket Discussion' should be purely for stuff like:

''Mitchell Johnson...how good is he?''
''Who should open the batting for India in ODI's''

Not current and future tours.

I was thinking; what if we get rid of all the sub forums in the Cricket Discussion Forum, and have all the threads together.

Then can they have prefixes like in the Cricket Leagues Forum to separate them all? (Prefixes such as: Fantasy Cricket, International tours, Domestic & Your Cricket) International tours, Fantasy cricket & Domestic (when it's that countries season) could be stuck at the top. Would that be too messy, or does anyone think that could work? :)

when i have got into some of the other forum parts and been in the discussion, i've found it enjoyable, i guess i've been sticking more to "serious" discussion, less jokey but that is maybe because i've been there with something specific to discuss rather than just riffing in the DBC forum while waiting for news, and partly also as mentioned above i know the guys less well. (and when I hazarded a "you're talking rubbish" post to someone he threw a sh*t fit, which was odd as it was pretty much me in polite mode!)

I know that this is an old post; but the best reaction I've ever seen on these forums was actually in the DB13 forums when I posted in the name announcement thread that the same should have been called "Mark Ramprakash Cricket 14" because he scored more first class runs and someone else called me an idiot and gave me a breakdown of both their careers; it was the best thing ever.

What I'm saying is that every forum is full of joyless idiots who don't like jokes

This is something I've been thinking about lately (sadly).

If I started discussing DBC in the cricket forum, I don't think it would fly. So the excuse of "well, the people in the DBC I'm closer too, so I'll just talk cricket there instead" IMO is rubbish. The people in the cricket side of the forum seem to stay on topic, so why should DBC not? Having said that, I like the banter that occurs in the DBC forum, so I guess it goes both ways.

Also, I like the idea of showing more threads before you actually enter the cricket forum. That is a nice touch.

The major problem with the Cricketing Discussion threads is that most of the threads seem to be about very small things and end up with only a few posts. I don't know if its because I'm used to the one cricket thread thing from other forums, but I don't like that. THere are perhaps some international topics that deserve a thread of their own (the BCCI shenanegans, the fact that India can't get fast bowlers are examples of that); but surely "Has The Momentum Now Shifted To South Africa" would be better in the tour thread; and the countless posts of "should India pick x" be in some general Indian discussion thread. The more posters making good posts encourages others to post; and having a load of one page threads on boring things isn't a good thing.

Agree completely. Often discussions in the main cricket section are based around stats and frankly, I don't have the patience to look it up to provide insightful discussion. Majority of my posts in the cricket discussion area are discussing games that are currently on.

I think your point about "who should India pick next" etc threads is right but a while back there was a thread about the discussion of the Australian team in all formats heading into the future. Threads like that are good because everyone has an opinion on who should or shouldn't be in the side. Whether they go in the next tour is debatable.

EDIT: This is the thread I am talking about

Y'see; that's how it should be - a megathread for all things about that team. Having millions of "should India pick x" really inhibits discussion because people don't really check them all, while if you had a unified India selection megathread, then people are more likely to read it because one thread with 10 posts a day seems less than 5 threads with 1 a day...

Not that I would post in them anyway because I know next to nothing about Indian domestic cricket so it would be a waste of everyone's time...

So to quote myself from the first post:

I know that things like general threads for each country have come up as ideas in previous discussion of the section - for example - instead of discussion being split across a 'Australian Domestic' thread in one forum, a 'Big Bash' thread in another one and several other ones in the main discussion section based on particular news stories, would discussing all aspects of Australian cricket in one thread be better or be too hard to hold a conversation?

Obviously it's something we could try without any attempt to directly consolidate things - just start posting, or continue to post in a single megathread for each national side and see if that's where discussion starts naturally going.

The main question that would come up - where's the line between discussion of a series and particular matches and discussion of the individual team?

---

The poll at the top is now closed, but I'll give it a bit more discussion time before making any changes, as it's relatively inconclusive with the low number of votes.

Certainly my first thought is on consolidation of threads and forums - but I'm not someone that's active in cricket chat, so I don't pretend to know what's best.

I think mega threads for each nation can be tried out. What we can do is, instead of one mega thread for all cricket for a particular nation, we can have 2, like one for the national team and the other for the domestic cricket and leagues. It will keep the discussion relevant and also will help in more posts than excess of threads with less posts.
