Which bowler had the most dangerous peak?

If Steyn has not reached his peak, then SA have uncovered the Brdaman of bowling.

Doubt it though.

I knew Marshall's peak was impressive, but had no idea about Imran's.

skill wise I think he'll get better, probably won't be reflected too much number wise, I feel in 2007 and most of 2008 his stats were a little too generous. NZ fell apart in SA and against india the first time he was picking up tailenders and ntini was the star of the attack.

since 2009 though he's been incredible, just the numbers are much the same because he was a bit lucky.

I would say Shoaib Akhtar not because of the stats but the fear in the batsman eyes.

It hasn't happened yet and I never expect it to happen, but Malinga in his full flow would have the most dangerous and lethal peak ever in cricket history.

Malinga is a good ODI bowler but I don't think he will replicate his limited over success in tests.

If Steyn's not at his peak, then there's no doubt he will surpass Waqar. He's practically already matched him.

Id say Steyn peak started in the April 2006 series vs New Zealand & he continued to maintain that standard since. So his stats then over that period would be 43 tests - 230 wickets @ 22

Waqar's peak was India 1990 - Australia 1994. After the AUS 94 series he had that back injury of his which made him miss cricket for entire year until September 1995 & he was never the same again. His stats from 90-94 where 33 tests - 190 wickets @ 19.15

Waqar was touching on 6 wickets per test their ha, while Steyn is currently 5.5 per test. So ATS Steyn has been better given that his peak could potentially last as long as 70+ test at the rate he is going, given that fast-bowlers usually start peaking in their late 20s.

I think he can for sure. In the test he has played he has showed clear sign that if his body could withstand the test cricket better - we would already be talking about him as a world-class test match operator already.

yeah, it's always been the SR of waqar that blows me away. these things will be easier for people that watched cricket in the time frame and have a good memory.

I can find: malcolm marshall from 1981-1986 200 wickets at 19.42 at SR of 42

imran khan: 1980-86 184 wickets at 15.92 (wow) at a SR of 42.2. (he managaged 14 5-fers in 35 matches.)
Yeah, that guy. He's the best ever & has better peak than any modern day bowler.Waqar's peak is overrated may be coz he did it at the start of his career. His peak is one of the many reasons for whom I rate him best ever.

^Thats because he lost pace due to stress fractures in his back. I am not saying he was better than Imran but he was one the most devastating fast bowler to have graced world cricket.

ANOTHER THOUGHT: Steve Harmison of 2004 he was pretty awesome for a short while there.

I was thinking Harmy too. In that 1-2 season span, Harmison was absolutely awesome. Glad that i'm not the only one who thought of him!
