Why Munaf is in the Team??

I'm not a fan of Munaf, just stating why he is in the side. I'd prefer Sreesanth or RP myself, or even Balaji back in form, maybe even Praveen, but Munaf hasn't done anything worthy of being dropped from the Test side recently. And if Dhoni and co. believe in him, then that's good enough for me.

Munaf Patel may have been born in Gujarat but he quickly moved to Mumbai to get more exposure and now plays for Baroda. So the Gujarat-connection doesn't make sense because the selection politics is team-based, not birth-based.

Whatever I have seen of Gony, I have been very impressed of him. Right now, I would take him over Munaf, even though he does not have the figures in intl cricket (because he hasnt played so far). Balaji never lost form. He just went out because of injury and is now back. When he played, Balaji was a far far far far better bowler than Munaf (when he played, Balaji was in the league of Zaheer Khan that we see today).

I will take RP Singh too over Munaf because he is more energetic and attacks more often. Sreesanth is a very attacking bowler who can also be economical in the test matches (a better package). I dont like only Agarkar and would say Munaf is better than Agarkar.

I would never pick Munaf in any of the Indian squads. He started off promising to be the big thing with very good speeds. But he has wasted his talent so far pretty badly.

You would take Gony and Balaji over Munaf? Good thing you're not a selector then. We would be the laughingstock of fast bowling with those two sprinting down and tossing down their 120 kph deliveries and making the batsmen sweat!

I still don't see how RP and Sree are better. As I've said their stats are all about the same. Sree has a bad attitude (then again so does Munaf) and RP plain sucks if it doesn't swing.

Sreesanth has a fantastic attitude, very competitive, very dedicated. He just loses his head at times. You wouldn't say Andre Nel has a bad attitude, would you? Sreesanth is just like that...but worse :p And he is quick, seams and swings it, aggressive, he is good.

RP my rely on swing, but he does have accuracy. And he adds more to the team overall - according to Robin Singh he is one of the side's best fielders, and he bats a bit too.

I would love to have the Munaf of 2006 in the team, not the present one. I remember very well that in a interview he said " Main Shoaib Akhtar se taej ball dalna chata hu"(I want to bowl faster than Shoiab Akhtar. ) Dude you cant even bowl faster than jesse rider at the moment.:p

Yo Mahesh, Ranadeb Bose, Balaji, Praveen Kumar >>>>>>> Munaf.

I'm no great fan of Munaf but you're just dead wrong. With the way he was bowling today, he was pretty good. Anyways, for some fans even if the person they hate makes a century or gets 10 wickets, it wont make a difference to them.

Anyone can bowl one good spell in a while, consistency is the only thing that matters in international cricket. Since when has he been consistent in the international stage?

I'd prefer Balaji in for Munaf :p. He simply hasn't got any talent, imo. But the guys just said that he's a massive bowler in IPL, blah blah blah.... But I didn't get that point, he played in IPL, but to be outstanding, I didn't feel anything like that.

I think munaf bowls fine. my main problem is he doesn't bowl long enough. the 3rd seamer should be able to take on a fair work load but he's reliant on bowling short spells and letting others do more bowling.

he needs to be a lot fitter before he's a genuine 3rd option.

Patel is not good enough to be the 3rd seamer, which is why he becomes the 5th seamer when Sreesanth and RP Singh are fit.
